The Scotsman running an article on the £10 fare.

Headline: ScotRail reveals how many £10 minimum fares issued to passengers since new penalty...
Anecdotally, a friend tells me he was on a train where people were buying tickets at the usual price when he was in the way to work the other day.
I wonder if they aren’t enforcing it for now due to the absence of a lawful basis or due to the Commonwealth Games being in Glasgow. Not that I...
The policy itself may be relatively uncontroversial, SNP competence (or lack thereof) is absolutely not.
An implementation unduly severe on certain groups would be attacked by the Greens.
An implementation unduly lenient would be attacked by the Conservatives.
An implementation that falls...
The difference in Scotland is it's not a TOC that will face the reputational risk for these scenarios going wrong. It's the Scottish Government itself. Especially if it can't produce either a legislative basis for the minimum fare or any impact assessments for the implementation of the policy...
I assume it's a mistake since it's referenced in their material published in March. I've seen it queried on Twitter by someone else but no indication from the Scotrail social media team whether this is a mistake and/or currently being worked on.
It only works if the person is believed every time. Which will be challenging when every habitual fare evader who boards at an unstaffed station cottons on and insists on claiming disability and paying by cash. Eventually a TE will make the wrong judgement call in a situation for which they are...
Pushing even some disabled people down that avenue of appeal is a failure to make reasonable adjustments.
Only a matter of time before a ticket examiner simply doesn’t believe a disabled person and they’ll complain to Transport Scotland/Scottish Government and it’ll be all over the papers. Or...
I don’t think disabled people should be required to jump through hoops to get their own money back.
The charging of the minimum fare contradicts their own policy.
Not believing a disabled person, which one TE inevitabiy will, and putting them through an appeal process to claim their own money...
“Accessibility issues” I’ve taken as being unable (for reason of disability) to use a TVM that is available.
I recognise other interpretations of “accessibility issues“ are available.
The appeals page is interesting as it states the reasons for appeal as:
Station unstaffed/No ticket office available
Retail facilities unavailable
Digital/App issues
Accessibility issues
Their own publicity this week indicates that on train staff will have access to information regarding the...
Shifting the inconvenience to the North Clyde Line? That’s a harder sell to affected passengers travelling into a completely different station. With services likely to be busier with passengers who would use Bellshill or Uddingston. If you are jumping in the car anyway the 6 tph in the peak from...
The quicker journey (via Whifflet, hourly) appears to be 3 carriages all day. The longer journey (via Hamilton) appears to be mostly 6 carriages (2tph).
These lines could also see more footfall from people who would usually use Bellshill or Uddingston.
If the situation merited extra services...
There’s been high winds in Glasgow and the surrounding area this morning. Traksy shows TREE on the line between Pollockshields West and Maxwell Park.
The 156 might just have been out for a look around in daylight.
I’m entertained their example - Bishopbriggs to Glasgow Queen Street - cannot be short fared in any case due to barriers at the latter. Unless you take the lift to low level and a train to another station and walk back, where you may encounter a gateline anyway. Seems like a lot of faff to maybe...
I wonder if they meant Bellgrove. It did occur to me yesterday after I put it up that Bathgate (which has barriers - I don’t know if they were in use during Covid restrictions) to Livingston North is one stop.
I vaguely remember some of these but the ones I saw were carefully crafted and didn’t outright say a prosecution took place. Season tickets being used to short fare through barriers.
I did always wonder what the mechanism for discovery was. Some related to periods of covid restrictions so were...
Yes.
Whifflet (as opposed to Coatbridge Central) has step free access to both platforms.
Coatbridge Central has an er, interesting, underpass to access one of the platforms.
Yes but I think what kkong is getting at is the idea of a significantly above inflation rise to offset the costs.
Politically it’d look incredibly stupid to trumpet the benefits of this now to hand the opposition a sound bite mere weeks before an election by hiking fares to offset.
This might seem a silly question, but on Citylink is it normal for it to be cheaper to travel from a station further away? The journey in question is Coatdyke to Buchanan Bus Station (return) is more expensive than Airdrie to Buchanan bus station (return) which is one stop further away on the 902.
