Lochaber narrow gauge railway : did it reach Loch Laggan ?

What should we be looking at on this side-by-side map?

    Southern Advance Tickets

Is a Super Off Peak Return (London Terminals to/fm Chichester) at £40.60 before any applicable railcard discount, not of any use to the OP? Reasonably flexible and not tied to specific trains. N.B. Time restrictions do apply in both directions, but was stated upthread that the outward journey...

Avanti delay repay for cancelled service

Has to be a 30+ minute delay incurred (actual arrival time = 1514, originally expected arrival time = 1441 had the cancelled train run) so still worth claiming.

Fords (shallow rivers and streams that cars drive through)

Don't think so. Buses run near to Kersey Mill but not Kersey itself.

    using someone else's student card

OP stated in post #1 that they were stopped on a bus, didn't they?

    Origin station DRC

As it's an Advance Single, necessarily it has to be one Dorchester station or the other. As the ticket is for the 0825 departure for Clapham Junction / London Waterloo, and using South Western Railway only, it'll be Dorchester South. So, not really either/or!

    Railcards

One or the other. Unless you pay the fee twice! Let you decide! ;)

    Origin station DRC

Is 'DRC' the code used by some ticketing retailers for fares from Dorchester South or Dorchester West? Did you book using 'Trainline' perhaps?

    Pronounciation of Lewes

Quite! However you pronounce 'Lewes', it's two syllables, not one!

Trivia: oldest station with the same rolling stock it had when it opened

Does the Snowdon Mountain Railway still operate any heritage locomotives dating back to the opening of the line in 1895/96? Not sure, however, if any passenger coaching stock used on the line quite dates back that far. Anyone able to advise/confirm?

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Can property freeholds be sold on, or are the trading premises of these struggling high street firms operated on short leases only?

What actually happens when a station lift breaks down?

What's the typical target 'get it sorted' response time if someone does get stuck in a lift at a railway station? Is it 2 hours, or longer?

Products and services where the new version is not as good or has significant disadvantages as the old

Have we had PRT rail tickets vs CCST rail tickets? Variously discussed on the forum, from time to time including, quite recently at the below link. Does anyone actually like the things...

Trivia. Stations which are busier at the weekends than in the week.

Denton and Reddish South in Greater Manchester certainly. They normally only have (very limited) services calling there Saturdays only. And over in East Anglia, Berney Arms has several more trains calling on a Sunday than on any other day of the week.

    invalid railcard

Do you mean a 16-25 Railcard? Giving a potential one-third saving on many rail fares for a one year period? Usually costs £35.

Faded print on All Line Rover ticket and poor LNER customer service

Indeed. So, £206.94 for a three day pro-rata refund or £275.91 if for four days? Agree that £75.00 is a wholly inadequate fob-off.

    GWR investigation for incorrect railcard

As @Sun Chariot has already mentioned upthread, possibly best to wait for the letter that GWR are likely to send you in due course. Presume you've not provided them with a moody address?

Glasgow Subway - did anyone ever call it the Clockwork Orange?

A soubriquet essentially invented by the media, which, in relation to the Glasgow Underground / Subway, can indeed be traced back to the late 1970s. Just never adopted by the local populace.

    GWR investigation for incorrect railcard

Not necessarily. Can you, however, satisfactorily prove to GWR that you held a valid railcard, at least up until November 2025?

Why is Edge Hill closed on Sundays?

If we're still talking about Edge Hill station, it apparently has 147 calls on a typical weekday. And 149 on a typical Saturday. All are Northern, with all four platforms in use. Which makes the average number of passengers using Edge Hill per station call less than 5.
