    Leith South, Edinburgh

I very occasionally hear (and once saw) a freight train going into Leith Docks. Realtime Trains give me the yard name as 'Leith South' - any idea how I can find out, in advance, of trains starting/terminating here? It's an odd looking line, almost completely disused/overgrown and has a manual...

    Edinburgh Group - Edinburgh Park

I'm almost certain I've asked this before but seem to be struggling to locate the thread searching in my phone, nonetheless: I am returning to Edinburgh on a Edinburgh to Motherwell (Route: Not Glasgow) ticket. Can I change at Haymarket to alight at Edinburgh Park? I understand that...

Hi everyone, I'd greatly appreciated some help on this one: On Friday I'll be meeting my mother in Perth but then spending the weekend in Dundee. Would it be possible to get a ticket that covers Edinburgh to Perth to Dundee to Edinburgh? I'd ideally like to leave Edinburgh around 10am on...

A few "Parking your bike in Stations" questions..

On point 4 - check your bicycle insurance. I think mine limits the time I can leave my bike at mainline stations to 24 or 48 hours.

    British railways seat legroom.

I'm something of a data geek so the idea of collating all this data and making a nice information product out of is sounds great. However, the actual value of the information to me is very limited. For the journey I make I have to choose between one operator and one class of train. I can't...

    Bicycle Reservations an Advance Tickets

Well that was fun. I made my cycle reservation, huffed and puffed all the way to the station and got on the train. This being the month of the Edinburgh Festivals, the train was absolutely packed so my bike didn't quite make it to the cycle area as it was occupied by people and luggage...

    Bicycle Reservations an Advance Tickets

I I remember now. Coach A is the wheelchair space. Coach C isin't ideal, I usually end up in Coach A by chance or because I'm in First Class. My policy covers bikes in transit but seems to talk about "motor vehicles". They've not defined what a "motor vehicle" is but I take it to mean "car...

    Bicycle Reservations an Advance Tickets

Howdy All, I'm thinking about commuting up to Edinburgh once a week from Lockerbie with my bicycle. I've been looking at advance tickets as I won't be returning the same day and I've got a few questions. 1) Are reservations essential for the bike on TPE? 2) The cycle space on the 185s is...

First TransPennine Express - First Class - worth doing?

I used to do Edinburgh > Lockerbie FC twice a week for about two years. Not the best offering and they'd done away with the cute little breakfast boxes too. The only reason I go FC is to get a seat. I don't get the chance to book seats/tickets in advance.

    Edinburgh

I've never tried taking photos of trains before but was thinking I should give it a go. Where's good in Edinburgh to get a few nice shots. Not to fussy what I photograph in terms of train...

    Another Eurostar Fails

The recent failures in the tunnel are starting to worry me. I worry about what they would do in an 'emergency" such as a fire, etc. I know (well, I hope) the procedures for pulling failed trains out of the tunnel are different to those invoked in a fire or similar but given the effectiveness of...

"Improvement Works" - the most annoying phrase yet

This is quite an interesting post in terms of railway usability and communications. Some have said before that the phrase "Improvement Works" has more positive connotations that something like "Engineering Works" or "Train Cancellations". You could look at this as a use of...
