    Odd Journey Option

The Virgin service (runing on time) gets into Edinburgh before the First Scotrail service. For all it is worth, I'm happier to know! In other news, another free ride, which saves me the bother of complaining about the atrocious service tonight!

    NXEC First Class

Last time I was on in Virgin FC there was only one other passenger 'up front' with me. The big reservations computer in the sky for one reason or another put us across a single table from each other!

    Odd Journey Option

Yes. But I don't think I can use my railcard on board. So I try to get tickets at the station when I can... --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Where can I lean more about such things. I'd really like to know how they do the delay reports etc

And, 'PRNCSTG' - what does that mean? Maybe you could point me to a rail glossary or something. I feel like I know nothing here... --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Wait, PRNCSTG will be a station abbreviation, right?

    Odd Journey Option

Also, I think I'll sit tight on the Virgin Service - chances are I won't have a ticket by the time I reach Edinburgh. I have a feeling that the Scotrail service will come to a platform behind the ticket barrier and I'm not to sure how ticket barriers work without tickets!

    What is recovery time?

    Odd Journey Option

Oh darn, my mistake, in Option 2 I meant Edinburgh Waverley and not Haymarket for the 22:33 arrival time. My bad. I just don't see why the planner would take me off a direct train and have me change at Haymarket for Edinburgh to save 60 seconds...

    Odd Journey Option

I'm going back up to Edinburgh tonight and because I'm forgetful I just used the National Rail website to check my options for traveling after 9PM from Lockerbie to Edinburgh. I have two options: Option 1 Lockerbie (LOC) at 21:21H, arriving Haymarket (HYM) at 22:22H on the Virgin Trains...

    NXEC First Class

I'm quite pleased actually. I'm only paying a little over £30 return from Edinburgh to Middlesbrough (changing at Darlington) . Turns out you get 16-24 Railcard on First Class Advance tickets - something I didn't know.

    Changing Seat Reservations

I'll just have to stop being nice then - or reserve the seats that I want. I've never quite understood how they can reserve the same seat more than once per journey. Does someone come and change the ticket over or something?

    Changing Seat Reservations

I doubt this is 'legal' but on services I have a reservation on and don't like the seat I have, I usually take the 'seat reserved' ticket from my seat and place it on the unreserved seat which I want to travel on. That way my 'old' seat is then free for others to use and I get the seat I want.

    NXEC First Class

Cool, I tend to take the 1st class tickets as a way to get a seat without needing a reservation. Ah the joys of travelling in a country with very few people. Last time I made a reservation in person I asked for a forward facing table seat with window and power. In return I got a rear facing...

    NXEC First Class

This is my first posting, apologies if this is in the wrong section, still learning... I've just booked myself a First Advance (or whatever it is called) from Edinburgh to Darlington and I'm just interested to learn what First Class is like on the NXEC trains. I usually travel First on the...
