I'd come from Canary wharf to Farringdon to catch the Thameslink. There should be oyster/card readers at every entrance to the station, but there are none anywhere near the lifts that come up from the Elizabeth Line.

I've tapped on the underground platform before and it's counted it as an entry to the tube with no exit

You're right of course. I should have been more specific in saying 'the first off-peak train on which my travelcard discount applies. I often catch the 08.43 as it gets to London Bridge (occasionally) at 09.45, and the return ticket is £22.70 instead of £52.60 anytime fare.

On the Trainline you can type that but St John's wood isn't one of the options. But if I select Clapham Junction, for example, will it sell me a ticket to London Underground Zone 2-6, or a ticket to Clapham Junction?
