1970-1974 WCML Weaver Jct -Glasgow electrification

Yes, you'd see them heading north through Lancaster mid afternoon, and heading south with a friend later on. I mean, you could try hooking a 390 on the front of a 'liner, but it's not going to fit in the loops anywhere...

Did I read somewhere that the frames for the Type 2s came from Beyer Peacock?

Avanti take needless announcements to a new level

So the need for leisure passengers to have the automatic announcement immediately repeated by the conductor... One of those two announcements is superfluous. I've even heard "as the automated announcement just said....." The grammatical mangling of announcements is a monitored requirement...

Gaps in the locomotive class numbering scheme.

I suppose a good example of the difference is the extention on LNWR numbering through to the Patriots. The LNWR numbered their locomotive assets upwards from 1. If an engine wore out and the cost of it was written off, it'd be replaced by a new locomotive bearing the same number. But not to a...

[Trivia] Had BR adopted a TOPS style class+individual loco number numbering system in 1948, what might it have looked like?

How so? Must have made cornering on a Scot tricky if you're applying that logic!

Gaps in the locomotive class numbering scheme.

Because, although used as a colloquialism in some parts of the country, the first two numbers didn't constitute a class element, it's just a serial number starting off from a round number for convenience. Exactly the same as with the unrenumbered diesels, not the renumbered ones... Chalk &...

Gaps in the locomotive class numbering scheme.

Although that would depend on whether the system identified the class/subclass from the running number, which given some of the number ranges for subclasses seems less likely? So, is the number just a number with the class number derived from a different field? In any case 55000 for D9000 makes...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

I saw the 114 at Lancaster (they weren't common there), and got my last TWPTE Class 143 at Windermere.

Major disruption Preston area March 18

I saw that leave Lancaster on my way to work. Grand, I thought, it'll all be right later when I finish. No. What was I thinking. Of course it won't. I'm not optimistic for tomorrow morning.

Historical Signalling Question, Morecambe Promenade, 1960s/1970s?

Some of the trackwork away from the platforms got a little reprieve during the Britannia Bridge replacement.

Historical Signalling Question, Morecambe Promenade, 1960s/1970s?

Wasn't there powers for a curve leading Heysham-Bare, but not acted on? Local lore said there was, but then local lore.... Might have been on hold pending that, if there was?

    Flexible tickets, northern app

Frequent user of flexible tickets on northern, but the last two have diminished faster than they ought to (duly reported). Thought about checking a different TOC app, but most involve faffing with a smart card. Are there any (others) that don't? Thanks in advance.
