    Rover and Ranger tickets

Thanks, that's good to know - I'll head north!

    Rover and Ranger tickets

Returning to the OP's question. Rover tickets do seem to have disappeared from Southern and Southwest areas. Is that the case everywhere? It seems a really missed opportunity. If you don't promote them few people use them and you miss them when they are gone.

    Closed stations list/database?

Does anyone know of the existence of a database of closed UK stations? This might be any number of formats: Excel, CSV, KML, Shapefiles, GPX etc. What is important is the coordinates infomation is available. Thanks.

Guardian reporting potential NPR "formal revival"

This is an interesting discussion since Wednesday (24/09/2025), based on a speculative article by the BBC. There does not appear to have been a ministerial statement or DfT announcement. It seems more of a response to political 'threats' to potential contractors.

The only way to make HS2 cheaper? Build HS3

Yes, the support, particularly financially, is at best flaky for some of these projects.

Newhaven Harbour station - Britain's most insalubrious station entrance?

It is a shame Newhaven doesn't get a better press. The ferry is really quite good even for foot passengers and economical too. There is a shuttle to Dieppe station €3 and Paris is only about €15 if you book in advance. A viable route if you are anywhere near the Brighton line.

    BBC Radio 4, "Derailed:The Story Of HS2"

I thought it was interesting to hear the whole story end to end. I was left with the impression that many of the shock 'revelations' that came about were actually known about earlier and some in the public domain, perhaps from voices that were too quiet at the time or had been quietened. As...

    HS2 delayed again?

Does anyone know if the delay costs have been evaluated? Contract delays, cancellations, retained employee costs, and redundancy? The point is that it will need to be funded or found from within the existing 'budget' (if it can be located).

    London Terminals vs London Thameslink

Unless I am doing this wrong, the Forum's site does not recognise London Terminals at all. You can enter London Charing Cross and it quotes a price, but it is only when you click on an obscure link "These tickets will not cover your travel between some stations." that you find your ticket is...

    London Terminals vs London Thameslink

Can someone explain the validity issue here, please. I requested a London Terminals ticket because I want to travel into Charing Cross but the Southern ticket site offers London Thameslink which to some extent has a great validity along the Thameslink route to St Pancras. However, according to...

    Future of HS2?

The story from The Independent https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/hs2-london-euston-train-transport-secretary-louise-haigh-b2625673.html Not quite an announcement yet, but optimistic noises.

    Has "London Terminals" been discontinued

Which ticket provider was that? When you entered your destination did London Terminals appear in the selection or was that what was printed on the ticket after you perhaps selected London Kings Cross?

    Has "London Terminals" been discontinued

Has the concept of "London Terminals" been quietly dropped from the National Rail journey planner / ticketing? It no longer appears in the list of stations displayed when you type "London ..." as a destination and you seem to be forced to select a specific London station when travelling from...

    Future of HS2?

Reading this thread and earlier threads, who is actually working on the strategic side of unravelling the muddle of HS2 we currently have? OOC and Euston go/no-go Incompatible train lengths and lack of tilt running on the existing infrastructure The bottleneck of capacity north of Birmingham...

Seeking funds for feasibility study to reopen the disused Northampton to Market Harborough line

I have seen integrated coach services work well in Italy. They use them for off-peak services to maintain an hourly schedule, routes to places without a railhead and also as a pick-up from intermediate stations.

    Southern ticket machines being misleading.

Thank you, I'll see what happens next time. I certainly got the impression from station staff it had been disabled at the time.

    Southern ticket machines being misleading.

Not even obvious to their own staff. 1700332151 11.30 am, well past the valid start time.

    Southern ticket machines being misleading.

Senior, but there are no options for any Railcards. Southern have said they are not available at some stations. I had tried Brighton and Worthing previously.
