So - being born and bred in East Grinstead, I can help certainly around the mid-80s.
"Normal" stock were Oxted (3D) and Hampshire (3H) units working in multiple - usually these were split at Oxted with a portion running to Uckfield and the other to East Grinstead. The Oxted units were mainly...
Hi All,
I'm looking to spend a school INSET day with my eldest son, going walking on the Isle of Wight.
I live in East Grinstead, but plan to drive to Barnham and get the train to Portsmouth Harbour, then the ferry and onto the train to Shanklin.
A straight adult + child return for the...
Hi,
My apologies if this is covered elsewhere. I searched and couldn't find!
Can someone clarify this definition in the NRCOC:
5. Children
Up to two children under five years of age may travel free of charge with a passenger
holding a ticket or other authority to travel. However...
Not sure if anyone can answer this, but does anyone know why the newish footbridge at East Croydon has gained central handrails in the last few months.
I understand it opened in January 2013 - so were the handrails not a requirement then, but are now?
The reason for me asking is that I was...
And you were brave to park at Sainsburys to then try and go on the Bluebell. Sainsburys recently dropped the parking time down to 90 mins to deter people from using their car park as a free option for Bluebell passengers. You leave yourself open to an excess penalty charge for staying longer...
if you are visiting in April - check thoroughly their website. I think there is a planned closure on the EG-Kingscote section to finish off some work at some point after Easter.
well - East Grinstead is a smidge south of Gatwick, be it on a different line. Can't wait for us to get some Thameslink action, will make my commute to Farringdon a little easier!
On my way back from London yesterday, I was early at London Bridge so decided to take an Uckfield train and change at Oxted (I was going to East Grinstead).
I noticed that platform 3 track at Oxted has been electrified - and am pretty convinced that this hasn't always been like that since the...
I would suggest the Crowhurst spur from the East Grinstead line to the Redhill-Tonbridge line as a re-opening.
I would go further and suggest a spur from the up East Grinstead line (south of Crowhurst) onto the Redhill line or even build an interchange station where the two lines cross
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I understand that whilst the work is ongoing some of the terminating platforms will be out of action. Assuming that some services will need to be diverted elsewhere (Victoria?), will the Uckfield trains still use London Bridge during the works as...
all being well, final works for clearance, track, infrastructure etc will be done during 2012 with an opening in Spring 2013. Work on the tip is currently on hold due to the winter weather/daylight etc.
At East Grinstead, and before the 1987 electrification which saw platforms made slightly longer, there were some peak evening trains from London Bridge that were hauled by 33's.
These never fitted into the platforms, so the train would enter the station and everyone got off where the platform...
The idea now is to clear enough out to get a single track through - so not necessarily the whole cutting. Doing the whole cutting would most likely take them beyond the April cut off for the tax exemption.
What there is a lot of though is clay/soil on the top - which will be taken south for...
there is also a very informative set of pages at http://www.philpot.me/cutting4.html . These are not official Bluebell updates, but give a good narrative on what has happened so far.
The link takes you to the latest update, so you will need to work back through the site to see earlier work...
Was wondering whether anyone here has a link to the new Southern December timetable? There is nothing on the Southern website but their 'sister' company SouthEastern has already released theirs.
cheers!
I noticed that NR/Southern have started to install ticket barriers at East Grinstead station; having removed the platform facing windows to achieve this.
My question is - why is this being done when the station is being scheduled to be demolished and rebuilt on a different alignment to the...
Dear All,
The East Grinstead line is being upgraded so that 12 coach trains can run on it from December, at least that is what Southern are publicising at the moment.
Can I ask - is the stock already available to do this, as Selhurst always looks very empty when I go by on the 0719 ex...
