Hi,

My apologies if this is covered elsewhere. I searched and couldn't find!

Can someone clarify this definition in the NRCOC:

5. Children
Up to two children under five years of age may travel free of charge with a passenger
holding a ticket or other authority to travel. However, children under five years of age who
are travelling free may only occupy a seat which is not required by a passenger holding a
ticket or appropriate authority to travel.

Does this mean aged 5 and under, or does it mean aged 4 or under?

It seems a little ambiguous.

I am travelling next week with a 5yo so wanted to check!

thanks for any advice.

cheers,
Darren

They need a ticket.

If you have not already done so, or not already bought the tickets (which I doubt from your post), I can strongly recommend you get a Family & Friends railcard. The discounts can be considerable, and it's good for a year. If you don't have time to get it online, you can buy it from any booking office (but it is a few quid more).

Also if you buy a Friends and Family Railcard online before the 22nd February at 23:59 you can get a £10 discount by using the code HALFTERM10

Making it only £20 for the year which is a bargain!

"Under five years of age" means up to and including the day before their fifth birthday.
