I'm sure It saw an interview recently where Mr Palin says it was filmed over an extended period not a single journey so could have stopped anywhere and gone home in between.
I've probably said this before but it was this programme that got me really interested in railways and inspired many...
Day 1 if you travel via Birmingham, you will still need to buy a ticket/tickets to cover Tamworth - Birmingham (train doesn't need to stop at Tamworth) and Birmingham-Coventry. Alternatively travel via Tamworth+Nuneaton or Rugby or via Leicester+Nuneaton.
