All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

Similar reason to why Stansted - Peterborough can run. It’s not connected to the wider network through Birmingham and is probably small enough that it can be managed by one person using manual processes remotely.

All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

It’s well documented that the BBC once had a failure that took out all of their FM radio networks and it turned out their backup feeds were fed through the same room as the main feeds, and that room overheated.

XC apparently running buses between Birmingham and Leicester now https://x.com/crosscountryuk/status/2091526825381888187?s=46 I assume the Peterborough to Stansted Airport section can run because it’s not connected to the rest of the network because of the engineering work and therefore easier...

    Avanti cancel last train (1/8/2026)

Avanti have emailed today to say they’ve cancelled the last train tomorrow from Euston to Birmingham, which we were due to travel on. We now have to cut our plans short to ensure we get the one before, but if Avanti had not sent the email and we turned up for our original departure time, what...

Camp Hill line - potential for increased frequencies and could King's Norton platform 1 be used?

Of course, lots of families with kids about but it helps that it's the school holidays too. I definitely think it will be well used for commuting from next week and that there will be calls to increase the frequency in the peaks.

Camp Hill line - potential for increased frequencies and could King's Norton platform 1 be used?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/camp-hill-line-progress-updates.283474/ The stations opened today, getting lots of use already! At Kings Norton, the trains that go via the new stations don’t have the platform number displayed against them on the departure...

You'd get there quicker waiting for an Edgbaston Village tram.

West Midlands Metro - News & Discussion

Hopefully they'll show as terminating at Millennium Point, since if you want to go to Edgbaston Village it'll be quicker to wait for the next one.

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

I was planning to take the 1626 from New Street but it’s been cancelled (along with the 1326 which presumably is the same unit and crew)

Willenhall & Darlaston station construction updates

Imagine the stations will be used mostly by people who would otherwise get a bus or drive to Wolverhampton or Walsall for a train to Birmingham, or Bilston or Wednesbury for the tram.
