Blue light card Avanti

My husband has a blue light card and I have the app downloaded on my phone for it. I'm going for a day out in London in a few months with a friend and saw you can get a discounted fare with blue light. But it's just me going, not my husband. Do ticket inspectors ask to see the blue light card when checking tickets? I could show them the digital card on the app but it's in my husband's name.

Yes, they do. IF you're not the card holder then you're not entitled to the discount.

Thanks, probably not worth it. My husband has a name I could potentially get away with pretending is mine but if they asked for a matching ID I'd be knackered. Will check split tickets instead!

I've got a blue light card and used it a few times. Never been asked for the accompanying card, but I wouldn't risk it.

Bear in mind that if a Blue Light Card is found to be misused then it can be cancelled permanently. (Check out other forums, such as Mumsnet, for countless stories of cards being cancelled after the holder shared the code with friends.) Don't take the risk.

I mean the advice to the question "should I commit fraud" is always going to be "no".

The discount for carers/hospital staff/teachers website along with other accounts such as perkbox and uni days also are eligible for similar partner offers.

I have never seen any staff request identification for these. At least one of the websites mentioned literally has no verification on the email address and proof is then just showing them the app/website where you are eligible.

In fact yesterday I had what seemed to be ticketless travel survey with one of these tickets clearly marked as discounted. Checked nothing other than the ticket itself. I questioned them over it with little knowledge coming back.

I'm not 100% sure about blue light caqrd, but bear in mind some of these schemse there are ways around this by purchasing vouchers etc. Some of them more generous than blue light card actually.

Under no circumstances whatsoever commit any kind of fraud especially if your hubby has a blue light card from being part of the main emergency services!

The Avanti Blue Light card offer is effectively a variant of the Avanti Superfare offer. Book at least 7 days in advance for a cheap fare on unsold seats on a not busy service. The prices are similar too: Blue light card Manchester to London £26, Superfare Manchester to London £25.

The difference is mostly that you get a better choice of service through the blue light card (instead of only being old which train you're getting the day before you know at the time of booking) and they also offer discounts on standard premium (blue light card Manchester to London by standard premium is £31.50 extra, saving £5 off the normal upgrade price).

So if you don't have a blue light card just use https://www.avantisuperfare.co.uk/ if you can cope with being allocated to a train the day before.

I think that oversimplifies it slightly. I can only get a superfare from Lancaster to Euston , but I've used my Blue Light discount to go to Edinburgh and Glasgow. There's a much wider choice with Blue Light.

You can book up to 4 tickets but the T&Cs imply that one of the travellers must be the cardholder as the card must be shown with the tickets.

Yeah I was looking at the terms that say you can book up to 4 tickets for other people, but he wouldn't be coming with me as the cardholder so that's the issue. Thanks all, I'll check our the superfare site.
