    Bletchley Derailment

I am sure there are many maritime forums having members posting about the recent tragic events of the Costa Concordia. And the speculations as to what members of those forums think may have been the cause of the incident. Whether right or wrong, the whole point of forums is to allow a freedom...

    Bletchley Derailment

As 142094 posted, it used to be done by massive steam powered cranes I believe. Mounted on low run carriages. They could clean lift between 20 and 50 tons depending on their size. But hydraulic jacks seem to be the cheaper and safer alternate now. Not sure if faster alternate though.

    Bletchley Derailment

One HIAB (brand name for a lorry mounted crane) would not be able to lift an 85 ton engine. The BRUFF (brand name for a road vehicle than can run on railways) would only be able to lift a max of 10 tons at close range, even with the biggest HIAB available, and I doubt they have one that size...

Girl dies after falling between train and platform

No sorry, it was just a friend quoting another media source. Either way, the bottom line is, unless boarding a train, no one should be anywhere near the edge of the platform. But I guess we all know that and Georgia didn't sadly. "Mind the gap" is simply not enough.

Girl dies after falling between train and platform

I am now hearing the person was running and waving goodbye to someone on the train. If it was guard dispatched, then they had no chance sadly. I have Facebooked the link for my friends to keep well away from the edge no matter what. Unless boarding a train.

Girl dies after falling between train and platform

A few months ago I got off a train at Addlestone, and as the train departed a teenager, who had just alighted it, ran to the double doors and tried to force them apart as the train picked up speed. After a few seconds he went back to his buddy laughing. I called out to him and spoke to him...

    Megatrain (Virgin) Journey

lol ok non annual season ticket holder. The point is staff with legal rights to travel (edit sorry should have added "for free") get hassle, so why should a customer paying for a ticket knowing the T&Cs, be allowed to abuse it? If they know the T&Cs that come with it, why say they want our...

Thank you all for the advice and help. Not sure what happened about the weather warnings but it turned out to be a lovely day. I even caught the sun on my face it was that nice! First time in a 170 Turbostar too, noisy but comfortable.

I have had a whole train to myself. Including no driver or guard. Only for about five minutes though.

Help and advice required please as I am not a frequent rail traveler around Scotland. I am traveling from LDS to STG via EDB tomorrow morning. Am I worrying about nothing, or could my journey be affected in away? ie OHL's down, flooding etc. Does anyone know how bad it is around those...

help and opinions on charge RE: privilege card

No indeed and good point thank you. I don't want to give false hopes! But I would certainly defend any legal consequences that may harm what could be a good and innocent character simply because of a lack of understanding. Priv cards are so trusted and open to abuse I guess.

    Worst Railway Station in UK

Can I dare conclude thus far, that it seems from the Northern members view that Wakefield Kirkgate is the worst station. And for Southern members it's another station simply because they haven't had the pleasure of Kirkgate? Being from North Surrey myself, I do not think any station down...

    Famous people on trains

I am sure newbies would like to add their encounters. Oh forgot to mention I was traveling with Craig Charles in FC on a Virgin service from Euston to Glasgow in 1999. Very funny man. He had the crew crying with laughter and signed autographs by the shed load.
