1970-1974 WCML Weaver Jct -Glasgow electrification

I am lucky enough to have both this book and "Britain's New Railway" in my collection along with the full volumes of Modern Railways from the run up to full electrification.

1970-1974 WCML Weaver Jct -Glasgow electrification

The memory of buying a ticket was to go to Coatbridge Central, they still didn't believe me after being shown the timetable! Yes indeed, that connecting service was formed by a three car class 101 Met-Cammell D.M.U. and one of three single car Gloucester R.C.& W. class 122's, no's...

    Stranraer line engineering works: 08/08/2026-30/08/2026.

Pictures appearing today on Facebook showing that all signals and points have been disconnected, what's left beyond Dunragit now effectively a long siding.

    Longest Point Rodding

Slightly off topic, but I am aware that there were multiple locations in Scotland were there was gauntletted track from a point near the signalbox to a junction which would have required a long rod.

    1974 Sleeper network

Notice that my local station Coatbridge Central was left off the list despite still having the overnight Perth/Inverness to Euston call.

[Trivia] stations where two lines converge on a single station and then both branch off eachother towards different directions.

Couple not mentioned yet, Bellgrove (City Union/Queen Street LL and Airdrie/Springburn) Springburn (Queen St HL/Cowlairs and Cumbernauld/Bellgrove)

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

I have been absolutely pestered with emails like these, they are some variation in content and format and appear to come from legitimate email address, have tried replying with remove but they keep on coming, any suggestions how to get rid. Hi There, I'm reaching out to see if there are things...

    Motorail services in the 1970s

Think they would need to revert to a 21st century version of the diagram 1/131 or FVX/FVV wagons. They comfortably transported Transit Vans from Bathgate so would cope with the largest of the Chelsea Tractor family

    Motorail services in the 1970s

At Glasgow Central (and Carlisle IIRC) there was a specially designed wagon for unloading cars. At Glasgow the train would use platform 11 so that cars had access to the adjacent roads. See photo.

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Just a last comment on charity shops. One in North Berwick had a Bachmann class 40 and three Bachmann coaches for sale. £170 for the loco, £70 each for the coaches! Popped in to ask if the prices were correct and was told that they were charging a similar price to Ebay. I shook my head and left

When will it go all wrong for the SNP?

Highly unlikely that he will serve anything near that, given that the SNP have introduced early release schemes to reduce the prison population, I think he will serve around 18 more months.

When will it go all wrong for the SNP?

Si Is it not a bit odd that as you state the pair split last year and announced that the would be getting divorced, and that she claims to be totally disgusted with him, the divorce case has not yet gone through the courts. Could the financial settlement that usually comes with a divorce...

Short (under 15 miles) lines that would be useful to electrify

Barrhead to Kilmarnock is an obvious one for me. If the GSW line services were run from Carlisle - Kilmarnock - Ayr connecting with electric services Kilmarnock to Glasgow, it could eliminate all regular DMU services into Central (I am aware that additional electric units are required for this...

Trivia: Stations that are electrified but have no electric trains calling.

Millerhill was live before Craigentinny, I have photographs of class 91s stabled in the yard during driver training runs.

Trivia: Closed passenger lines that have now been reopened and electrified

The section from Airdrie to Drumgelloch can claim to have been opened as a single track, doubled, closed to passengers, singled, closed to freight, reopened a single track, electrified, temporarily closed and doubled!

    St Enoch Terminus Glasgow question.

Old article from Rail Magazine, think it was around 1998, says the tunnel could have been open by 2005. 1770895376 The last time that scheduled passenger trains used platforms 1 and 2 to access the link to High Street was the weekend before the Blue Trains came into service, the line through...

    St Enoch Terminus Glasgow question.

Think this is something I posted on FB! A number of years ago I sketched up this very idea on my Website "Lowland Locomotives", it was not based on any official schemes, just something that I thought would be a possibility, but I did not include closure of Queen Street. It is still described...
