    Good bus territory?

From another thread about Stagecoach in Thanet. What makes good bus territory these days and are there any areas where operators have 'beaten the odds' by creating an attractive service?

    Tbilisi, Georgia

Does anyone have any tips for sights, architecture or trains in Tbilisi? Not looking to go too far out of town but could be persuaded.

    How do charter flights work?

As Bournemouth have European football next season ( @bb21 ;) ) I wondered if they and the visiting teams and fans might use charter flights to/from Bournemouth Airport. If the airports aren't full to capacity like Heathrow, is it just a case of agreeing time slots and paying for ground handling...

Flights - what time of day?

How do airlines decide which departure and arrival times make sense? I assume for European short haul it's about fitting in the most round trips within crew hours. What are the factors for long haul and how long does an aircraft need to be on the ground to be restocked for the next flight?

Trivia: Which station has the latest first train or earliest last train?

I think Mallaig would be up there with a 1815 last departure on weekdays. Typo corrected!

    EU baggage allowance

The EU has suggested a minimum free hand baggage allowance and easyJet has said this would lead to more baggage being offloaded to the hold. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2026/jan/29/eu-proposals-to-free-extra-cabin-bags-on-planes-lunatic-idea-says-easyjet

I enjoyed this video by @AlterEgo about the sleeper coach from Zürich to Amsterdam.

    New cars you have seen

As a companion to my other thread - new car models you see out and about. I will open the bidding with a BYD Seal fully electric saloon.

    Tea and coffee

Two questions on this; When did coffee become ubiquitous in the UK - I was on our local industrial estate earlier and there are bean-to-cup coffee machines at the carpet shop, Wickes and the car dealership while you wait for a MOT/service. Coffee is also available at the Starbucks, Costa...

    Uber Pool

In Liverpool earlier I requested an Uber Pool journey, as it was similar to the bus price and involved less walking. This is cheaper than a standard Uber on the basis that they might combine your journey with another customer. The first driver accepted and cancelled, and the second driver...

    Older cars you have seen

Interested to hear of any older cars you've seen on manoeuvres (I would narrow it down to pre 2000 but this rule can be ignored). Pictures also welcome. Today I saw two on the M11: Nissan Micra P reg - forgot how much smaller it was than the later versions Rover 820i F reg - which looked very...

    Advance fare horizons

I need to buy some Advance fares on Avanti West Coast for the first time in ages. What's the rough horizon for dates opening these days - has the old 12 weeks gone out the window?

    Reform UK discussion

As we have one for the other parties... Reform are campaigning in the Kent County Council election as they are elsewhere. From their local social media pages they seem to be doing door to door campaigning more than the Tories. They have a series of Facebook posts with a lot of likes / comments...

    Widest section of railway

Where is the widest railway as in the most tracks side by side? I'll start with the SEML between Grove Park and Hither Green where I think there is a few metres with 27: 8 up side sidings 5 main line 1 down side train wash 8 down side sidings 5 in the freight sidings (?)

    Door to door broadband sales

I do the odd day working at home so I've had the same broadband sales guys at the door a couple of times. Not overly impressed with their patter, but more to the point most people will be locked into a contract so how effective is this as a sales channel?

    Airport expansions

1737403707 According to Bloomberg the government will authorise the Heathrow third runway and Gatwick and Luton expansion. This could be a bid to unlock growth.

    Laptop recommendations

I'm in the market for a new laptop as I'm currently using a 2010 era Thinkpad (which has great build quality to be fair) so would be interested to hear any recommendations under £1000. Main uses would be web browsing, a bit of Word and Excel, not gaming. It looks like all Windows laptops now...

If everyone had to support their local football team...

... As in geographically nearest, which club would have the most fans? I reckon it could be Arsenal which is surrounded by dense inner London in all directions. Chelsea would be compromised by Hyde Park, Richmond Park and the river.

    South Cambridgeshire new town proposal

This is a submission to the New Towns Taskforce to create a new town on spare land close to Ashwell & Morden, Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton stations. https://russellcurtis.co.uk/2024/11/10/get-on-board/ The submission says this in relation to the GTR / Great Northern service - is this a fair...

Is the whole GB timetable interconnected?

In other words, are there any independently timetabled networks on the mainland? This would exclude 'once a day' moves to swap sets for depot or fuel e.g. the Sheerness branch. As far as I can see the London commuter TOCs all interact with their nearest neighbour (including Southeastern high...
