I've recently seen a couple of coal trains on this line - from a distance - think they were operated by Freighliner HH.

Whiling away a few idle minutes at Crewe recently, I noticed several sections of bullhead rail where what I can only describe as omega-shaped clamps (in plan) had been fixed to the web of the rail.
Anybody know what purpose they serve?

Am I right in thinking that one of the Edinburgh - Birmingham services is scheduled for a Pendolino rather than a Voyager? I seem to remember seeing a Pendolino in Waverley in the early afternoon recently. The 1452 maybe?
