A rather long account of my experience is here (as I wanted to try and explain things from my side): https://saveecrewards.co.uk/blog/unpaid-fare-notice
In short - I got on the 19:30 (P4) [note: I mistakenly typed P6 when I posted this, but it was definitely P4] last Friday instead of the 19:00...
Currently at LNER managed stations the departure screens are listing all LNER destinations as 'via #ItsComingHome' I hope control remember to remove this from any train that's cancelled :D
I was booking some tickets via the VTEC website (as there's now no first class quiet coach I need the seat selector to grab a seat in coach K nearest the kitchen, before I could book on a better site and just select quiet coach in the seat preferences).
When I went into the seat selector I...
We all know VTEC like wasting time on silly ideas and neglect the boring basics like having the disabled toilets working or ticket offices sufficiently staffed (I've been told Durham ticket office is currently closed due to staffing issues and last week Grantham and Wakefield Westgate had to...
After being asked by VTEC to take down their business plan document, I mentioned that when the railway was publicly operated we would have been able to access this information by Freedom of Information request.
So in my mailbox over the weekend there appeared a business plan from East Coast...
Bring Back British Rail have launched a crowdfunder to sue Chris Grayling over his handling of the VTEC franchise. At the time of writing they've raised almost £3000 of their £15000 target.

I did a poll on Twitter and was quite surprised that 96%...
The VTEC Travel Buddy app really is a joke of an app. Most of the functionality is just links to the website. The only native functionality is the ticket wallet so the mTickets can be displayed. It's always been unreliable with some people experiencing crashing when trying to load their tickets...
It’s been over a week since I was going through King’s Cross Thameslink (which is now just an alternative exit for the tube). The escalator was still out of order, what seemed odd was there was a message urging people to complain to Network Rail about it. This was on one of the Tube info boards...
I had a few minutes today and was near King's Cross so I thought I'd take a look at how difficult the new VTEC ticket machines make it to purchase tickets for immediate travel with a railcard (after someone Tweeted VTEC on Friday showing the steps they needed to go through).
Here I compare with...
All the little bits of cost cutting at VTEC are becoming quite apparent and earlier this week I was in the VTEC KGX lounge and it's apparent how they're cutting back. The various cutbacks have been mentioned on this site in different threads already and I've put them together in a blog post. One...
It's amazing how the VTEC social media team still get this wrong. It wasn't from this weekend but earlier this month they claimed that weekend first Newcastle to Aberdeen was £25.
It's not the most difficult thing remember.
If your journey does NOT start/finish at KGX/SVG it is £15...
As VTEC have announced that their new booking engine is planned to launch tomorrow and it won't support cycle reservations from launch I've put together a quick guide for anyone used to using the VTEC website to book cycle reservations.
The main point is to show them to another WebTIS site so...
As part of the Virgin Trains East Coast loyalty and recognition programme (yes, there is one) staff on board have been given a smartphone app which identifies customers that VTEC want to recognise on board. The most common manifestation of this is the free prosecco or complimentary upgrade...
This is supposed to be a promotion targeted by Nectar to various people. If you do have a Nectar card I'd be interested if you were targeted and if so was it for both offers. Also if you've found any other destinations where the offer applies let me know and I'll add them.
Although the offer...
Well despite scrapping the loyalty scheme there's still a lot of good things about VTEC. The most important to me is the fact they're bringing customer relations back in house. Hopefully this shows a commitment to improving quality rather than doing what is cheapest.
So what are your views...
I mentioned this earlier in the thread about the recent Which? survey but the topic on there was mostly about the bottom of the table.
The fact @Virgin sent out another tweet this evening prompted me to write this.
I'm getting frustrated that Virgin are trying to spin the Which? survey where...
The VTEC launch thread was starting to get a bit full of posts about rewards so I think we should carry on discussion here. Although it was a great scheme I'm aware not everyone is interested in rewards and it's therefore easy enough for them to avoid this particular thread without risking out...

Virgin Trains East Coast have claimed that they did research regarding the change of East Coast Rewards to Nectar. They said East Coast customers have been asked. None of my 700 Twitter followers (or those replying to...
[Mod note - split from this thread]
No presumably they won't open the gates for you at King's Cross if you say you're travelling East Coast but if you have an Oyster season ticket (covering Z1) you could get through as they need to accept that for Great Northern stopping services.
If you did...
