LNER via #ItsComingHome

Currently at LNER managed stations the departure screens are listing all LNER destinations as 'via #ItsComingHome' I hope control remember to remove this from any train that's cancelled

I noticed yesterday Heathrow had it on their "special notices" board and thought that was a nice touch, but I do think this pratting around with destinations is somewhat immature and childish and potentially confusing.

I've seen Edinburgh via #ItsComingHome. I can't imagine Aberdeen or Inverness trains saying that as they're listed as via Edinburgh

Its appearing all over the place, Arriva & Transdev buses are also displaying them on destination boards. I'm usually not too concerned about it, other than it might jinx the whole thing! England were doing OK when we weren't getting too giddy!! (Says me today wearing the same top I wore on Saturday afternoon..... )

Edit: A thought occurs to me. Given the respective "home" countries of the parent companies, maybe they are trying to jinx it!!

Picture on Twitter, shows they at least remove #ItsComingHome from cancelled trains. It's all a bit of fun and seems to be going down well on Twitter.

I guess those who really hate football need to hide in Scotland for a few days, but find a different way to get there

The only ones that LNER usually list a via for are the ones beyond Edinburgh and it does seem #ItsComingHome has replace the via points for these.

Can you imagine the froth on here if *Virgin* had pulled this stunt rather than it being LNER?

(I don't mind such gimmicks, the "North Pole" at Christmas and whatnot, just as long as the same rules apply to everyone)

This is a bit different to the other ones as it's not altered the name of anything. They've resisted the temptation for Newark Southgate (or should that be South Gate) so it shouldn't cause too much confusion. Maybe a bit of anger if you're in a hurry and you need to wait until the board goes from #ItsComingHome to the actual destination.

Somebody mentioned to me 20 years ago that most people in Scotland do not dislike the England team as such - it is the commentators that keep on referring to 1966.

The next match that England played after the 1966 win was against Scotland, where England lost 2-1.

Yes, that's an issue. It's my strong view that displays showing departure information should not ever be used to show static or irrelevant information of any kind, as they are often needed for split-second use. At no time until the point of closure for boarding should the time, ultimate destination or calling points of the first train from that platform be obscured, even temporarily, and at no time should the summary station departure or arrival displays show anything other than arrivals or departures; separate screens should be used for other non-time-critical matters.

Yes, that includes "see it say it sorted" etc - stick that on posters, on the "special notices" panel, on board or on displays on platforms where no train is due any time soon.

It's all a bit too Half Man Half Biscuit... "walking out onto the concourse I saw that the giant screen had been tampered with, probably by a junior employee. Disgruntled commuters were being regaled with some dismal TVM..."

How do you know? Sometimes it's a split second thing.

Nothing other than accurate departure information should ever go on departure displays. There are plenty of other non-time-critical displays (special notices and arrivals) to put stuff like that on.
