Went through NLW station recently and noticed scaffolding up.
Wondering what was being done, and I found this on the Merseytravel site:
https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/about-us/local-transport-delivery/Pages/Newton-le-Willows.aspx
It looks like quite a lot of work being done, and I might pop...
There are a lot of PEP-derived EMUs around on our railway, but it seems that nearly all of them are listed to be replaced: Merseyrail is tendering for a replacement for the 507s and 508s, the 315s are to be replaced by 345s and 707s, most of the 313s by 700/2s.
That would just leave the 313s...
Are there any possible places where third rail could be installed, rather than OHLE?
Obviously, they would need to be in-fill on third rail, but most of the old Southern Railway region is already electric, and OHLE conversion is already being looked at, so converting bits of Southern seems...
Merseyrail have announced plans for a major expansion of Newton-le-Willows station
Major highlights include:
Entirely new station buildings on the South side with access from the existing North-side entrance through an underpass, including toilets and a proper waiting area.
New 400+ space car...
Per Manchester Evening News, Porterbrook are moving their 323s from the Manchester commuter routes to the Midlands.

I have an advance first from Poulton-le-Fylde to Manchester Stations. The associated reservation is for today's 18:48 to Manchester Oxford Road. Am I allowed to stop short at Deansgate station, which is part of the Manchester Stations group?
Serco have contracted with CAF to build new sleeper stock for the Caledonian Sleeper

I think this is the first new loco-hauled stock in GB since the Mark 4.
From the Autumn Statement:
2.203 Northern and TransPennine Express rail franchises The government will publish the Invitations to Tender for the Northern and TransPennine rail franchises in early 2015, and will specify a substantial package of upgrades including new services and modern...
This is my "budget, what's a budget?" option for HS2 in the East Midlands.
At East Midlands Airport, dig two twin-track tunnels.
Reroute MML between Loughborough and East Midlands Parkway to run through the airport.
Approaching the airport from the South, the down line (western...
I'm sure one of you here can find it far faster than I can.
There must be a document somewhere explaining why it was felt necessary to have a Crossrail interchange (and the use of Old Oak Common as such has been a major driver of the route, including the difficulties with the HS2-HS1 link...
So, if you got a couple of hundred billion quid to extend a HS network across GB after HS2 is finished, what would you build?
This is assuming that HS2 will go ahead more or less as planned.
Here's my thoughts:
Fully tunneled HS2-HS1 connection in North London, so through trains can...
Andy Burnham (MP for Leigh and Shadow Cabinet) has attached himself to the Transport for Leigh plan.
I don't think I'll bother explaining all the things that are wrong with this idea.
Leigh is not likely to be well-served by the LMR, whether by a station on the line (Kenyon Junction...
I've had a fair dig around and couldn't find a thread on this. If I missed one, please point me in the right direction.
Seems to me that electrification of the Liverpool-Manchester and Liverpool-Wigan make the argument for the Edge Hill Spur (the line connection between the aboveground line...
There are two mainlines out of London that are already or are about to become electric-hauled with 25kV OHLE - ie GEML (Liverpool Street-Norwich) and MML (St Pancras-Sheffield).
GEML is currently served by ex-WCML class 90s with mark 3 coaches, and MML is mostly class 222s, with some HSTs...
