I frequently see cross-country voyager GWR 801s that are two sets coupled together with no gangway between the two units.
How are the staff distributed when there are two units like this coupled together? How do they reach all passengers? Are there two sets of trolley staff? A guard in one unit...
Hi all I am building a 7.25" gauge diesel for my garden line.
I want it to have a two tone horn as per mainline locomotive.
So... Are the two tones a standard harmonic or tone and if so, what are the specs?
Or where can I buy an ex-BR horn I can use?

To be honest, it's about time all local bus journeys were free or only a nominal charge. If they really are serious about reducing pollution then the ULEZ zone charges should be...
Just had a good weekend exploring the Isle of Wight railways, national rail and the steam line.
We travelled the national rail line a couple of times and nowhere did I see any maintenance vehicles. There are sheds at St Johns Road, maybe the engineering vehicles were there. So how do they...
Yesterday (9 May) I had to travel from Taunton to Newcastle for a funeral. The only possible service was the cross country 0746 from Taunton. Being "in the know" about trains, I checked realtime trains at about 7am and imagine my horror to see the train cancelled between Plymouth and Bristol...
https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1870214/new-30m-uk-train-station-open-closed-60-years
So this is a single platform station with access road and car park for 40 cars. No footbridge, minimal infrastructure.
Yet the cost is £30 million and it going to take 3 years....
Really? Surely a platform...
Hi all, I am looking to build some models of the 1950s concrete signal gantries erected on the southern region.
Pictures of these are difficult to find, there is a poor one in this link https://sremg.org.uk/RlyMag/CompletionOfBrightonLineC-LSignalling.pdf
From this I have created the 3d image...
We live adjacent to cogload junction,Taunton.
Boxing day we saw several trips by an engineering vehicle.
Self propelled, it had an open platform at the front that accommodated several men. On the same vehicle was a JCB. Lots of lights too.
I have googled and found no pictures of it. It was...
With the forthcoming modernization plan, I intend to photograph the Cornish boxes next spring.
I last did this in 1982, so an update is now due!
I understand the existing working boxes are:
Lostwithiel
Par
Truro
liskeard
Roskear Jct
St Erth
Penzance
St Blazey
Goonbarrow.
In addition, which...
A replacement switch is being installed at Cogload Junction. Looking from the lineside, it looks as if its the up line facing points for the Westbury line. Much infrastructure and new trackwork has been assembled lineside but it looks as if it will need considerable lifting to move it into...
I'm travelling on this route in August on my way to Lviv I understand that there is now engineering work and now no trains running. UA railways website is unhelpful and just says "no trains".
Anyone know more or can offer advice? The workaround seems to be a taxi between the two stations.
Two of us are travelling Taunton to Paddington on 7 August. We need to be there before 12 noon.
I have been watching the advance fares and see that the 0905 train has been offered at £36 for two. Certainly it is for 31 July (ie the week before).
I excitedly logged on this morning to book...
Hi all, I have had a load of reclaimed sleepers delivered for a garden project. One of them has the plate shown in the attached picture still on it.
Can anyone tell me what this plate might signify?
The sleeper has an extra set of bolt holes at the end which leads me to believe it may have...
Its been a very quiet weekend lineside between Taunton, Castle Cary and Highbridge as the line has ben closed for engineering.
Whilst it looks as if the opportunity was taken for vegetation clearance - we saw several van loads of men cutting back bushes with some impressive chipping machines...
TBW is in operation between cogload junction and castle cary due to signalling cables being damaged due to flooding. So what does TBW entail? I assume it isn't a man worth a flag standing at the entrance and exit to the section to let trains in and out. Does it mean that westbury signalbox talks...
