We live adjacent to cogload junction,Taunton.
Boxing day we saw several trips by an engineering vehicle.
Self propelled, it had an open platform at the front that accommodated several men. On the same vehicle was a JCB. Lots of lights too.
I have googled and found no pictures of it. It was obviously traveling to a work site. Traksy tells me there was a T3 at Somerton, though that does seem a bit distant (c10 miles).
Any info on what vehicle this was and what work was going on?

The mysterious world of On-Track plant and Road-Rail vehicles...

Not my area of expertise, but there's an On-Track Plant website which has plenty of photos of road-rail vehicles, trailers and related equipment, which is probably the best bet for finding a picture of whatever it was you saw (for full access you can register).
