St Erth. It's sad to see the old footbridge removed but the replacement looks good. However I notice that the lifts are still not working and there is still the small shuttle bus between the two sides of the station. What is the reason for the delay in the lifts?
Long Rock. Interesting to see...
I've just returned to the UK after some years away working overseas, to find that the GWR runs from Penzance to Cardiff Central and back are now only running as far as Exeter St Davids. If you wish to travel further east or North than Exeter you have to change trains. To get to Cardiff...
Waiting for the Train to London Yesterday, I took the chance to ask a member of staff about the future of Platform 1 at Truro once the Falmouth - Newquay services start.
I was told that he didn't know and that he didn't think anyone had thought of it.
Has anyone heard anything?
Does anyone care?
Arrived at 11:30 at Truro Station to go to St Ives to find 70 or so people besieging the entrance. Why? No trains running at all. The reason? A broken down train on the Falmouth line.
Now when I say no trains running at all, I do me No trains on the Up and Down Cornish Main line. Staff could...
Unfortunately I didn't have my phone with me to take evidence but I noticed over the last weekend that three new sidings tracks are being laid at Long Rock to the western (Penzance)side of the Depot and that at long last, the ground is being prepared for the installation of the lifts at St Erth...
I notice that the 06:33 1S45 Penzance-Aberdeen Cross Country service is being diverted today and reversing twice both at Bristol Parkway and at Newport and being sent up to Gloucester, via Chepstow and Lydney. What is the added distance to todays longest Journey? Are their other possible...
Any Good recommendations for a day trip out of Stockholm? Maybe a couple of hours out of the city and then a couple of hours decent exploration and a couple of hours returmn?
News has filtered to me of Platform extensions at St Erth and Lelant for summertime 5 coach trains along the branch. All very welcome. I was wondering if this means that my home station Lelant will now loose it's request stop status and if so, would this be just for the summertime services only...
There are threads about reversals and the largest number of reversals a service might have but which service has the longest distance covered by a reversal. I'm thinking of the reversal at Grantham where the Nottingham - Skegness trains cover almost six miles reversing between Allington East...
The St Ives Branch has been reduced to an hourly service - ostensibly because of covid. I find this strange as the train has only two staff operating the train. the driver and the conductor/guard. The train now sits at St Erth for 30 minutes with both staff close by before setting off back and...
Sadly, it's been announced that the Cornish Comedian Jethro has died.
I've always laughed and loved his "The train don't stop Camborne". joke.
What railway joke makes you laught at?
I wonder if you good people could help me resolve a problem of information that I am finding to discover.
I am a UK national here in Papua New Guinea an amber listed nation, double vaccinated here in Port Moresby and I am looking to return home next month. I know that I face quarantine, but, I...
I was just wondering if any other countries had their Beeching moment when they had a large portion of their rail network pruned?
If they did to what degree was it cut and have these nations also regretted the cuts and are they trying to re-establish some of the lines cut.
Once upon a time, maybe 30 or so years back, it was possible to travel from Wick to Penzance within 24 hours. Like many others, I have just received a mail from GWR announcing a new timetable from December. Curiosity killing this cat, and very little else to do out here in PNG at 10PM, I logged...
Just found on Realtime trains a service from Cross Country which years back you'd never have thought you'd hear the names of the stations called at. More in a moment. I have often listened to announcements of services to some stations on a journey calling at stations I'd never passed by and had...
Hi everyone,
In ten days from this post I'm in Auckland for three days and looking to do some shortish rail journeys whilst I'm there. A journey of say 90 minutes there, a couple of hours at the location and 90 minutes or so back again.
Advice on ticket discounts please too. I'm over 65 years...
When I joined RailfourmsUK I considered my ID on this site and I took the name "Requeststop" as I was so peed off at my home station Lelant being turned into a request stop because of the goddamned awful concrete monstrosity at the Saltings and the Park and Ride fiasco to St Ives.
But hooray...
Another forum I follow as a regular traveler by air is Pprune. Professional Pilots Rumour Network. Recently there has been a thread https://www.pprune.org/passengers-slf-self-loading-freight/619772-why-we-told-pilots-names.html asking why when we fly are we told the names of the pilots? And...
What is the plan with the major works at St Erth. Major works are in place for parking on both sides of the Station. Reading about the plans on line, it appears it is for the proposed half-hourly services between Penzance and Plymouth. Is access going to be made to both the main line platforms...
So tonight I'm on the Night Riviera to Paddington from Cornwall and will arrive at Paddington for my 65th birthday.
I've posted more about this on the route coverage thread and my intention is to just simply describe here the seven journeys I have to make to complete my total network coverage...
