Something I've often wondered, how does modern signal box communication between power boxes/ rocs/ iecc centres?
In the case of a train running late or an incident is information automatically passed along or is it a simple case of using the phone? I'm assuming bell codes aren't used anymore?
I'm due to travel on an off peak return next Thursday 10th May from Liverpool to London, however due to other factors I'm not too sure what train I'll be able to catch in the morning therefore currently unable to reserve a seat.

When a train is cancelled mid journey how are the platform information boards/ announcements at stations further along the trains intended route updated to reflect this? Or is this done in conjunction with the signalling?
