Hi all,quick question!
Im planning to take my dad on the leeds-carlisle line on a weekday next month.
We'll be travelling Liverpool Lime St-Leeds-Carlisle-Liverpool lime St.
Can anyone advise on ticket prices&types?

You could get a Liverpool to/from Preston ticket (Anytime day return at £13.40, together with a North West Round Robin ticket (valid Preston - Blackburn - Leeds - Settle - Carlisle - Penrith - Preston) at £32-00 (per person).

For more flexibility and longer validity, a Freedom of the North West 4 in 8 Day Rover would cost £60-00, I believe.

Railcard discounts should be available.

Can anyone advise on ticket prices&types?

Mcr Warrior's suggestion at £45.40 is good but does not allow travel via Manchester (you must go Liverpool - Leeds via Preston and Burnley) and that makes it a very long day.

My suggestion is a £51 Anytime Return Liverpool - Appleby, which is valid out via Leeds and return via Carlisle, or vice-versa. If travelling at weekends, it also offers free First Class upgrade on Virgin Trains between Crewe and Carlisle (National Routeing Guide map combination CP+NC).

But Mcr Warrior is right. The Freedom of the North West 4 in 8 Day Rover is much better value. For £60 you get unlimited travel (Mon-Fri: generally not before 0845) on any 4 of 8 consecutive days throughout North West England - see this map. Northern produce a very good leaflet about this and their other rail rovers.

Yup, the freedom of the north west rover 4 in 8 is by far the better value. It would enable you to split journeys and complete what you wanted to do on another day if time isn't on your side.

Yes, for only an extra few pounds you cna have another day (or three) out with Dad on one of the other lines! That's definitely what I would do.
