    Stagecoach West Scotland

This would be strange. As the X16 is actually very busy through most of it's journey. Withdrawing it from Hamilton might not go down well.

Buying house backing onto train tracks...

I’m not sure if this thread is finished or not. But for a good few years I lived in a house which back garden was directly next to the Largs line. At this time there were frequent trains to Hunterston. I recall being regularly woke up at 2/3am to the sound of a 66 powering up behind the back...

    Class 314 Withdrawals

The centre car is still there. As just behind the driving car of 314204, you can see a pantograph.

    Longest line of sight (UK)

It always fascinates me how far you can see as it makes the world seem tiny
  5. Scotrail314209

    Longest line of sight (UK)

I’m pretty sure from the Cathkin Braes in Glasgow you can see quite far around you, can’t remember how far as I’ve not been there in a while
  6. Scotrail314209

    Longest line of sight (UK)

I’m not too sure, I think it’s rare but if you look in the right direction on a very clear day, you might be able to see something

    380s on the Ayr Line

I don’t get why they decide to run that as a random semi fast, when really it normally leaves 20 minutes later as a regular service. Seems a bit pointless to have.

Ghosts in the UK (contains large images)

I've only had one relatively minor experience. My Mother was over at her boyfriends house one night, I was 18 (now 19). It was about 3 in the morning and I was doing my usual, listening to music and playing some games. All of a sudden, I heard a smash. Like a lightbulb popping or someone...

    Longest line of sight (UK)

Taken at the seafront at Saltcoats, Scotland. Visible in the very background are the Paps of Jura, roughly 80 miles away. I wonder how I could see these, but not the coast of Northern Ireland. Returning on another day I was able to notice the tip of Galloway. I also believe from the 10th floor...

    380s on the Ayr Line

Sorry to bump up an old thread. Noticed for today there is an STP 08:32 Largs - Glasgow service which has a calling pattern I've never seen before for a service from Largs. Largs, Kilwinning, Johnstone, Paisley, Glasgow Does anyone know why this is? It seems a little bit random to run that...

    East Kilbride/Barrhead electrification updates

I think the electrification of these branches is one of the things that has been needed for ages, given that throughout the day East Kilbride is a busy route. Electrifying this route means that diesels will also be practically redundant from Central High Level, with only the Kilmarnock and...

Off lease trains that still have some life left in them

365s for certain. Perfectly good and reliable units, with the majority sitting dormant down at Crewe.

    RailUK First Class Lounge Guide

That'd be fair as it would mean that if someone was going to Linlithgow, Polmont or Croy they wouldn't need to wait in the main concourse. Queen Street and Inverness definitely need a lounge as the majority of services running from there convey First Class accomodation.

    RailUK First Class Lounge Guide

Aren't ScotRail trying to really become an InterCity TOC? If they want to compete with LNER out of Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh, they should really start opening lounges and allowing people on advances to use them. Glasgow Queen Street would also be worthy of a lounge for long distance...

    Johnstone - Kilwinning 100mph

Isn’t the coupling on the 380s only extremely slow because of the gangway and the way it has to physically move to connect with the other
  19. Scotrail314209

    Johnstone - Kilwinning 100mph

I think the speed on the Ayrshire lines would need to stay the same, because of the tight curve that leads them away. Going out towards the WCML you could probably do about 30mph
  20. Scotrail314209

    Johnstone - Kilwinning 100mph

That’s also a good idea. But it may not be worth the extra unit as the use at those stations is extremely minimal. However, doubling up would provide more seats as trains from Largs are extremely busy
