    Avanti First Class 'sold out'

Thanks It's quite ridiculous. Avanti could have lost my first class ticket sale if I had believed that it was really sold out and not just booked on another train. It's hard to book an open ticket that's not for a specific train now.

    Avanti First Class 'sold out'

On Saturday 25th November I tried to book a First Class ticket off peak return ticket (London to Stourbridge Town) using the 10.49 Avanti Euston – Glasgow (via Birmingham) Sunday 26th. Avanti (and other websites) said that first class was sold out on this (and a number of other Avanti trains...

Altnabreac station and the various legal disputes around it

It's more than a curiosity, it's a great place to walk from as I have done twice.

Storm Ciarán: Weather related disruption 1/2 November

Does anyone know what the prospects of the line between Taunton and Exeter being open tomorrow? I'm due to travel Paddington to Torquay.

Storm Ciarán: Weather related disruption 1/2 November

Line blocked at Crediton now. No trains to Okehampton or Barnstaple.

Storm Ciarán: Weather related disruption 1/2 November

GWR website still says Taunton -Exeter closed until at least 16.00

Storm Ciarán: Weather related disruption 1/2 November

Looks like it. Trains still running between Exeter and Newton Abbot but not east of Exeter (Taunton) or west of Newton Abbott (Plymouth).

    Caledonian Sleeper

If the delay was due to the weather / track, would it not be Network Rail who foot the bill for delay repay rather than CS? I think the whole delay repay situation is unreasonable. Weather, suicides etc aren't the railways' fault but we can still claim. No other mode of transport offers this...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Given that the ladders are mainly used by passengers in bare feet it would seem rather important that the rungs are comfortable to ascend and descend without shoes on. They are far from it. One can only assume that this was not considered or tested at the design stage.

Could the Dartmouth Steam Railway provide locos to assist failed GWR services?

Would it not be a good idea to keep a 37 or similar with appropriate coupling adaptor at Exeter so it can rescue trains, or is that not technically possible? It might not seem economically viable but what was the cost of today's disruption?

Disruption due to an issue at Dawlish (18/10)

Bother. Bad decision then. Decided to play safe rather than risk very long wait at Exeter.

Disruption due to an issue at Dawlish (18/10)

I was on the 14.36 Paddington to Paignton. Left just over 30 minutes late waiting for driver. Almost immediately passengers found online it was terminating at Exeter. Train Manager was unaware but said he'd check. No announcement before Reading. After reading this thread and GWR saying so far...

due to a short notice change to the timetable...

It would be good if someone was brave enough to say that over the PA! I think many people do want to know the cause of delays & cancellations and don't want to be fobbed off.

due to a short notice change to the timetable...

Same on TFL - 'Delays due to cancellations'. Passengers should be told the root cause of delays.

Final XC HST (1627 Plymouth - Leeds) 18/09

Could well have been. I was on my own and sat in reserved seat that was empty, with two youngish blokes in the window seats talking about fares in Worcester / Birmingham area (sorry I was listening with interest!) I'd planned to get the down train from Bristol on my way from London to Torquay...

Final XC HST (1627 Plymouth - Leeds) 18/09

I only travelled from Totnes to Newton Abbot but First was fully booked and Standard virtually full. Passenger demographic somewhat different to usual for this train.

The new lounge car menu looks excellent. Same menu for all trains now. 1694292396 I was on the southbound from Fort William last night (Friday) and it was a 66 & 73. Is that now normal for the summer length train?

Travelling chef - First Great Western

It was excellent. Especially if sat in first class where the meal was served on a chine plate - like a restaurant car. It wasn't marketed as well as it could have been. Even on trains there often weren't announcements. And if someone ordered a reheated buffet burger why weren't they offered a...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I often wonder how some of the older, less mobile or larger passengers manage in the double berths and are there passengers who book but find they can't actually get in or out of the bed?

    Caledonian Sleeper

I tend to set my alarm for just before arrival in Euston, so won't be ready to get out on arrival if the train is early. I don't deliberately wait until the latest advertised time but nor do I consider that the train running early should impact on my already shortened sleep. Is that...
