    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Why are they hauled to Craigentinny, are the units not allowed to run under their own power?

    Interrail isn't worth it

InterRail/EURail can be worth it, but you'll have to plan your trip up front to determine if it's actually beneficial for your situation or not. For example, Eurostar charge £33 per person for an IR/ER reservation. If you're not particularly savvy on a specific train, it might be worth checking...

    GWR Class 800

Well, it's the same factory that built the Fyra V250 trains... back then they even had difficulties with properly fitting out the magnet which holds the toilet paper roll in place ;)

Recommendations for an easy food and drink excursion from Eindhoven

If you do go to Den Bosch, you should definitely visit Jan de Groot's bakery. They make Bossche Bollen (chocolate balls), a local delicacy. Photo: Jan de Groot

Recommendations for an easy food and drink excursion from Eindhoven

Breda (38 minutes by train) and Utrecht (48 minutes by train) are very recommendable. Breda has a lot of cafés in the vicinity of the Grote Kerk (Big Church), you're sure to find something to eat and to drink there. Utrecht is bigger, and has a lot to offer - you can take a canal tour if you...

    Catastrophic derailment in Taiwan 21/10/18

The footage from a security camera which recorded the entire incident has been released: https://www.nu.nl/algemeen/5526845/bewakingscamera-filmt-fatale-treinontsporing-in-taiwan.html This reminds me a lot of the Santiago de Compostela crash in 2013. :/

What was the original intention of the creation of Railtrack PLC?

Two, actually. National Express are already operating services in various areas, Go Ahead have won some tenders and will start operating services in Baden-Württemberg in 2019. :) Not really. The only people you'll hear about Abellio's foreign adventures (and the risks they bring) are from the...

Is the class 91 fleet going through a bad patch ?

As far as I know, LNER are in a tight spot when it comes to fleet availability. The fleet is being worked hard: the amount of services has been increased, but there have been no additions to the fleet (that's what the Azuma's are for). Earlier this year the "Beast from the east" wrecked some...

Disruption between London Paddington and Slough 16/17th Oct 2018

That would also require work on the foundations, which means design and calculation work is needed. Not something you'd want to do when trying to get significant damage repaired ASAP.

    Trivia: PIS and signage fails

Many years ago, Dutch Railways used split-flap displays to show information about where trains would run to. The split-flap displays looked like this: Apart from times and calling patterns, there were also flaps to indicate that the train is an all station service (used when not all...

    Class 350 BatteryFlex

Huge batches of brand new EMUs are on their way for various franchises, which makes it hard for Porterbrook to get rid of their off-lease but not yet life-expired trains. With the Flex projects they want to make the most out of their assets.

    Blocked culvert

You should definitely report it to Network Rail. If nobody tells them they won't know, I don't know how often culverts are inspected for blockages. It's in NR's interest to keep it properly maintained and functioning. Maybe it's not their culvert after all, but if that's the case they are...

ICE caught fire on German High Speed Line

Some pictures of the damage to the infrastructure have been posted by the Lokführer page on Facebook. Rumours have it that a reopening is not expected until the timetable change.

ICE caught fire on German High Speed Line

DB have just announced on Twitter that they do not expect the line between Siegburn/Bonn and Montabour to reopen until the end of the week. The damage caused by the fire must be substantial.

    Scotrail Class 385 Discussion

Welcome to the world of public relations management, where bad news has to be massaged so that it doesn't look that bad. It's good to hear that the issue has been found, and a fix could be applied rather quickly.

    Amsterdam Eurostar

The schedules are already available on RTT, and it looks like that's what's going to happen. 1T90 1712 SE St Pancras International to Maidstone West 9I50 1716 ES St Pancras International to Amsterdam C.S. The SE service goes first, the Eurostar follows it at block distance. After Ebbsfleet the...

ICE caught fire on German High Speed Line

The infrastructure has been badly damaged: the track is damaged, the overhead line is down, and the LZB line is damaged on potentially both running lines. The expectation is that one line can be reopened to traffic Sunday afternoon.
