    Refused to pay

It might feel like it’s ‘free’ at the time because no cash changes hands, but the £22 will have been recovered through your pay account. If it hasn’t been there’s a big problem with your admin office as the blank cards are accountable documents. Making the ID card work as a railcard wouldn’t...

    Vauxhall OSI

South of the Thames, when Oyster PAYG was introduced the 3 main TOCs were not prepared to change to the standard TfL fare scales, and since a Zone 3 - Zone 1 journey is charged on a NR + TfL ‘mixed mode’ scale. It’s not caused directly by the OSI, it would be the same fare if you were able to...

    Vauxhall OSI

Out of station interchange. Joins separate journeys into one when you have to go through gatelines en route, typically if NR and LU stations are physically separate.

What new routes could be opened up due to the introduction of East West rail, and could open axis operators be involved?

EWR are only proposing a maximum of 3 tph each way on the Bletchley to Bedford section to meet anticipated demand. Thats just the one all stations stopper and two faster services. On that basis, some of the proposals for multiple routes all over East Anglia seem way off the mark.

    Refused to pay

In your various posts, what is this ‘warrant card’ that you mention? Is it what is normally referred to as a forces ID card?

    Double third rail query

Doesn’t seem to be long enough, but it is about 50m to the road bridge on the aerial view. Maybe the 378 isn’t fully cross connected.

    Double third rail query

There does seem to be an equivalent long gap northbound on the ramp down from the flyover. An isolation gap would have to be the length of a train as all shoes are cross connected.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

No. Although “runs as required” paths exist from the June timetable change, they’ll initially be for training. The passenger services won’t start until some weeks or months later. The website says “summer”, not “summer timetable”. (I hadn't noticed post #876 before but I think it’s premature.)

    Lincolnshire OAO?

They are only allowed a licence to operate if they can convince ORR that they’ll significantly increase the overall rail market. After that’s agreed they also have to show how they will not be primarily abstractive with respect to existing operators. Both requirements have to be met, but AIUI...

Why are XC allowed to continue?

That That shouldn‘t have been an insurmountable problem - Central trains staff must have transferred to XC, why couldnt they have transferred to a different franchise? Academic now though.

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

That TfN paper was linked in post #29 and discussed on the next page.

What new routes could be opened up due to the introduction of East West rail, and could open axis operators be involved?

I’d say all legs should be tested for abstraction from flows using the same basic route, so Reading to Oxford against GWR, and Oxford to Bletchley or Bedford against EWR, but I suspect your “via Derby” example is too extreme, I doubt it’s a valid route between Reading and Leicester anyway. (I...

Why are XC allowed to continue?

Since the 2006/7 changes I always thought of XC as just the main north/south network operated by Voyagers, and then the loosely connected midlands regional network operated by 170s, the bit formerly operated by Central Trains, as ‘XC-lite’. They‘re not the same type of service, and should...

    Another Landslip: Hassocks/Burgess Hill area

I believe it’s all copied directly from Southern’s website, in the section headed “Can you tell me more about the incident”. It’s nobody’s “take”: https://www.southernrailway.com/service-updates/service-updates?uq=638480150189000000#INC56B48ABD454C457A923C79A4C617A84A If the first post had...

How common are dividing trains in the UK?

It just suddenly seemed something I’d read before. I think this thread did go through a lull until someone kicked it off again.

Did you realise the age of this thread? See post #94… :D o_O Have two threads been merged here?

What new routes could be opened up due to the introduction of East West rail, and could open axis operators be involved?

Expected service patterns have been discussed many times in the forum, but are easy to find on EWR or NR website. Extensions across Oxford are regularly discussed but I wouldn’t expect anything in the short term, their initial plan is to get Oxford to Milton Keynes and Bletchley then to Bedford...

Could the Acton-Northolt Line be used in future to run services out of Paddington?

Even if there was platform capacity in Paddington they wouldn’t want the crossing conflicts at the flat junction, that’s why they curtailed the GWR Greenford service to West Ealing. There was an idea to have trains from the Chiltern route terminating in additional dedicated platforms at Old Oak...
