Darned sneaky including place names beginning with an A - “And the North“ and “And the South”… :D

    MML Electrification: progress updates

The short audio section in the linked report suggests that there are still ‘finishing touches to the sides’. I’d expect a lightweight sheet metal cladding?

Levenmouth rail link to reopen: project updates

Although it’s fortunately not the cheapest possible T junction, as they are providing a decent size right turn lane for northbound traffic.

Double red lines in roads outside of London?

Already has. A Google for “red routes“ finds articles from all over the country.

    Chesham Underground permanent closure?

That wasn’t a “rumour”, it was a deadly serious proposal that only failed because of Hertfordshire County Council financial issues. It had been through the TWA Order process, achieved DfT approval 2013, and site clearance commenced with a view to main construction in 2015.

Cross Country cutting out Winchester, Basingstoke and other stops

Perhaps we could have another thread about that? On second thoughts, maybe not… o_O :D

Cross Country cutting out Winchester, Basingstoke and other stops

It’s been mentioned somewhere in this forum, but I don’t think it was in a dedicated thread. Might be in the June timetable general discussion. Here it is, includes links to XC PR: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/june-2024-timetable-change.262449/page-17#post-6704573 Reading to York hourly...

How could the Elizabeth line expand?

There’s another option. Crossrail told me a few years ago, (in response to an emailed query), that a future extension onto the SE network would use stock modified for DC pickup.

    Term ticket validility

Are they still using void days for disruption? Probably irrelevant but a small possibility?

    Marylebone to the Continent…

I suppose you have to think about the overall passenger capacity Watkins was aiming for. Cross channel demand would not have been anything like today‘s numbers. He might have only needed a few paths per day.

    Cambridge South new station opening

Switches and Crossings. What many probably refer to as “points”.

Cortinas, Cavaliers and successors - where did they go?

This would have been about 1975 or 76! I can hardly remember the cars general condition now, although as a Mk1 it mustn’t have been that old, maximum of about 6 years maybe?

Cortinas, Cavaliers and successors - where did they go?

I once had a short time behind the wheel of a friend’s Capri, it might have been a bad example but its handling was atrocious, the steering was hopelessly unresponsive, probably needed power steering, and from a driver‘s perspective the bonnet did seem very long.

    GWR Bristol - Oxford service

The EWR TWA inspector’s report states that the agreed project definition did not include any increases in Bletchley - Bedford line speeds anyway. So nothing there has actually been reduced either. Beyond Bedford I’d suggest anyone would be guessing at this stage.

    Chesham Underground permanent closure?

IIRC any rumours were at greatest volume back when the branch was mainly a shuttle service into the bay using a 4 car train, and the imminent arrival of the S stock meant the shuttle wouldn’t be able to run as it used to. There had been previous proposals over the years to cease through...

    Unusual sign at Littlehampton

Southampton had one in recent memory on the down side, the furthest west end of the building. Only removed to be replaced by a sign for “Doddle”, and that idea didn’t last long.

How could the Elizabeth line expand?

Tring via the WCML definitely was considered seriously as the destination of a Crossrail branch. You have to go back to Network Rail’s London and Southeast RUS of 2011, and the idea fell out of favour later, but it was covered at the time. They expected it to take 8 tph, using a new alignment...

    Unusual sign at Littlehampton

Coincidence being located nearby really. Many more stations had postboxes on platforms or at their main entrances before and after Red Star was a thing. A postbox would be cleared by a postman on a collection round, was probably somewhere nearby before the last station rebuild and would have...
