    Urgent TOPS Requests

Can I ask which unit was with 185140 on the 17:11 SHF-MAN on the 12th April please?

Drinking alcohol on a station platform - is it permitted?

I will frequently walk down the platform with a can. I wouldn't (normally) crack one open on a platform, but if I've not finished the one I was drinking onboard, I'm certainly not leaving it behind as that would be littering! :D

We both had places to be sadly.

    Seeing forum members unexpectedly

I was walking to platform 14 at Man Picc earlier and heard @yorkie heading the other way say "Hi 185143". I found it quite amusing that he remembered me by my user name and not my real name.

Drinking alcohol on a station platform - is it permitted?

Precisely. Back when Northern put stickers in their units saying "No food or drink to be consumed" I argued with someone on twitter that it was inhumane to stop people even drinking water in the height of summer and directly contradicts the advice put out by most TOCs. He, in fairness, agreed...

Drinking alcohol on a station platform - is it permitted?

I see no reason why not. Other staff and Police certainly can do, and plain clothes revenue will identify themselves when speaking to a passenger. On topic, I had an encounter in similar circumstances to the OP last year at a TPE station. It was in a polite enough manner to be fair and the...

No more Nectar points from SWR website (from 1st May)

Don't give them ideas! They'll deactivate the wifi and turn off the plug sockets next. In all seriousness, Metrolink removed the onboard wifi last year and I don't think it's back on yet...

    Famous people on trains

Not on a train admittedly, but one of my teachers at school was former Lancashire cricketer Mark Chilton. Really decent guy, he had time for everyone wether you were good at sport or not. Back on topic, earlier today I saw a few Avanti staff on the platform near 1st Class at Man Picc a good 20...

GM Wayfarer - Wigan to Warrington

To be fair, I could sympathise if an Independent in Derbyshire, Staffordshire or somewhere like Burnley took exception to it. But we're talking the major operators like First and Stagecoach here. And it's very rarely challenged without an extremely defensive attitude along the lines of "I've...

    Conductor at a younger age

I'm safety critical (not traincrew) and started at 18. Go for it is my advice.

Scotland - Framework out of the pandemic - 23rd February 2021

It's just Sturgeon playing political games with Westminster. Don't forget Scotland nearly eliminated covid last summer but us germ ridden English tourists coming in were solely to blame for the spikes afterwards.

GM Wayfarer - Wigan to Warrington

I've had that a few times. Eventually practically stopped using them, the aggro on buses being a big factor in that. I remember one of the more reasonable drivers I had in Bury rejected it, politely in fairness, as it was a train ticket. Said it's valid on anything which he doubted, until I...

    On-train catering

Avanti now do an at seat ordering service in Standard too. You can go online and order something from the shop and either go and collect it or have it delivered to your seat. GWR have resumed using the lounge car on the Night Riviera, window seats only, and also started serving alcohol on there...
