Entire 800/801/802 fleet stood down for safety checks

I would assume that the cracks were within tolerance, just, but have worsened? All units are being inspected every 24 hours IIRC.

Your pub and hospitality experience as the Covid restrictions ease

I find that I'll tend to, in order to be fair to the staff you understand:smile:, order 2 pints at a time so they don't have to keep coming in and out all the time.

    Best and Worst First Class

Apart from the appalling window-seat alignment, which is perfect in Standard. The opposite to the Mk5s.

Entire 800/801/802 fleet stood down for safety checks

Preston and Glasgow definitely don't. Not sure about Newcastle these days either.

Alighting at MKC nearest to stairs as as tight bus connection?

It's either carriage 3 or 4, but it's definitely the second set of doors. I know I got it perfect when I last went to MK in August. I'd be surprised if the 4 and 8 car stop boards are at the same place, but I'd gladly be corrected on that.

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

I stayed there last week in a Super Room as it was only a quid per night dearer. Arrived at around 01:30 to a warm welcome and got checked in quickly. The room felt posher than a regular Travelodge. The hot chocolate sachets and a couple of kit kats were a nice touch, you normally have to go...

1st May Northern passengers told to all travel in the front carriage

Oh yes. Many a time. And, based on my extensive experience, it will be exactly as was reported. On a recent AM peak train I travelled into Manchester on, popular with schoolchildren, there were 13 of us stood in the vestibule at one point due to everyone being forced into the front carriage...

    On-train catering

I suppose the Skegness services are probably amongst the busier trains at the moment so I can see the logic with that one. Although I don't recall Skegness trains having catering before last March?

    On-train catering

There's a trolley service on this Norwich bound EMR service I'm on. Catering was loaded at Sheffield, suspect it'll only be available until Nottingham. But it's certainly a step in the right direction. And unlike other TOCs, it's an at seat service too.

Felixstowe to Penzance on the Night Riviera

I had an 05:30 start and only fell asleep while we were stopped at Exeter at around 03:30. I certainly didn't sleep much despite the early start. They do offer a berth supplement, £90 I think. Having done the sleeper in a berth, I'd highly recommend it.

Felixstowe to Penzance on the Night Riviera

£18????!! That's definitely just a seat. Be aware that the seats are 2+2 with fixed armrests in the window seats and are rather firm. I've spent two nights in the seats which was two nights too many for me, although the second time I boarded fully anticipating a sleepless night and it wasn't...

    Longest Railway Commute

I've been sat in First Class on the 21:49 Euston-Crewe in the vicinity of a person in London Overground uniform who alighted at Rugby on at least two occasions. That's about an hour by train.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I did end up over the bogies on the mk3s once. Though I'd been caught up in a cancellation the previous night and had just been woken up on a ScotRail 158 at Inverness having managed about 2 hours sleep the previous night on the Lowlander from Preston. Under the circumstances I slept like a...

Very glad to have checked and seen I'm in K06 for my trip in July!

    Caledonian Sleeper

And a cushion! The Mk5 sleeper seats are awful.

How long can you handle being on a train?

Very much depends on the traction and what alternatives there are. I've happily spent the night in the old sleeper seats from London to Inverness and would have gladly done the return leg the following night I slept so well and had such a good trip. Similarly anything more than about half an...

    Caledonian Sleeper

No alcohol on Avanti. The night Riviera, to try and keep remotely on topic, is selling alcohol to anyone and sleeper passengers are allowed in lounge albeit at a greatly reduced capacity.

Scotland - Framework out of the pandemic - 23rd February 2021

In the words of Father Jack... DRINK! Now that us germ ridden English folk are allowed in, I'm heading up to tick a few 'Spoons off in Central Scotland for a couple of days.
