Is the Penalty Fares system working

An equitable system would differentiate between the forgetful, and those wilfully evading. But how you determine which of those a passenger with a ticket irregularity is would be difficult.

And, IMHO, they are better trains to ride on. Less noise, and no smelly diesel fumes (laden with particulates) in stations.

Is the Penalty Fares system working

If you want to combat fraud you have to increase the chance of fraud detection. The 'have your tickets been checked' thread is depressing reading. We need to understand why guards are failing to check tickets. Once people get used to travelling for nothing, the behavior will become ingrained.

Trivia: Settlements where rail infrastructure is more well known than its namesake

There was supposed to be no chopping and changing of vehicles within the sets but of course it happened! 2. As part of the yearn for...

The proposed Eden Project North at Morecambe

If carting a reasonable number of people on a daily basis to a leisure facility on existing track is not 'what the railway does well', what is the railway for?

Bars erupting from OHLE structures parallel to the contact wire

I used to commute from marston gren to five ways around 1990. The down freight line through Adderley Park was just taken out of use and the OHLE was earthed with big red cables. Don't remember what the earth end was attached to. Prob a DEP.
