Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

LNER are proposing, inter-alia, "floor walking", "upskilling" and "answering bespoke questions". Is there any other type of question which a customer might ask in a station retail situation?

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

The following line from the RDG press release is typical of the type of PR we see these days. "Across the network as a whole, there will be more staff available to give face to face help to customers out in stations than there are today" There will be more staff available out in stations...

my GWR, XC and ScotRail's HST tour, and some question related to it

The scheduled HST and Class 170 services are listed on ScotRail's site.

OK. I take it you are not in favour of international standards in general then? Perhaps I should start referencing locomotive numbers in unusual formats on the forum and see how many "normal people" I can trigger. "I saw HST 4 3 1 05 today" :)

Off topic, but why invent new formats when there is a long-established standard (ITU-T E.123) for phone numbers?

    Saw it, said it, sorted?

It is a question of readability. You know this. It is why forum posts are easier to read when there is white space. And the same reason numbers are easier to comprehend and transcribe when they are split into smaller groups of digits. Have a look at your recent incoming call log on your...

It's not always... I and several others I hear in the office start our mobile numbers with "zero seven". Perhaps that's because we're in the telecoms industry... we also know how to format phone numbers correctly. ;) I find it amazing that people write their mobile numbers as a string of...

Still heard on LNER and ScotRail yesterday. ScotRail's announcements (on the HSTs at least) have become a bit weird since a few months back. It now ends "see it.... SAY IT SORTED" with an odd lack of natural gap before "SORTED".

Yes, the trouble is, try doing that with airline PNR codes and other situations and it won't work. Why not just be accurate? People do know that the number zero exists.

I'm not sure why they say 61O16. it's 61016; the SMS isn't going to go through if you try to include a letter in the number.

ScotRail fares to increase by 4.8% from 03 July 2023

I've not asked for an "economic breakdown". But some idea of whether he'd like to fund his demand for a >5% increase in his members' pay by an increase in general taxation, a reduction in guards' pay or some other suggestions would have been a positive contribution. Because without that, his...

ScotRail fares to increase by 4.8% from 03 July 2023

Is that any of his concern? We are often told on this forum that unions exist to look after their members' interests only and passengers are not their concern.

    Rangers and PlusBus

It's also said to be possible to load PlusBus onto a ScotRail smartcard, although I've not tried it.

ScotRail fares to increase by 4.8% from 03 July 2023

He has made a comment on fares policy which he didn't need to make. It would be helpful if he could offer something further than the usual soundbites and bluster.

ScotRail fares to increase by 4.8% from 03 July 2023

No, I don't. I doesn't require "expertise" to offer (even a broad outline of) a range of suggestions as to how the funding circle could be squared.

ScotRail fares to increase by 4.8% from 03 July 2023

Mr Lindsay's full quote: My comment was that there seems to be an inconsistency between his simultaneous demands for a pay increase for his members and a freeze to ScotRail fares. By holding both positions at the same time, is he not obliged to offer suggestions as to where the extra money...

ScotRail fares to increase by 4.8% from 03 July 2023

BBC article: ScotRail fares to increase by 4.8% from July Transport Scotland news release: Rail fares increase level confirmed I'm not sure where Mr Lindsay of Aslef thinks the money for their pay rise should come from if they don't want any increase to fares, while they have just rejected an...

Which TOC's have the Smartest Uniform?

RAIB report 02/2023 relating to the fatality at West Worthing indicates (paragraph 128) that GTR staff who require access to the track (which includes drivers) must wear safety shoes meeting EN 20345 protection level S3 (which includes a 200 Joule impact resistant toe cap). Do the same...

ScotRail to hire 42 Revenue Protection Inspectors

The 2p per scan is already in place in Scotland. Scanning m-tickets on the app is no different from scanning e-tickets. 1686430309 Another common example of this is the "Kids for a Quid" when travelling with an adult.
