    Does Croatia own its trains?

I'll see that when I get there. Every year I do a short train trip with my sons, least year it was the "massif central" lines in France, this year it was the Dampfspektakel in Trier, and next year if all goes well it will be the Belgrade-Bar line. So I'll see how it goes in Serbia and...

    Does Croatia own its trains?

I did go To Croatia and back by train. Way in from Brussels to Frankfurt and Wien, overnight there, and the day after, international train from Wien to Ljubjana via Graz (Semmering line), change in Zidani Most, and from there another international train from Ljubjana to Zagreb and Vinkovski...

TGV duplex, would it fit through the channel tunnel?

SNCF sticks to end power units for good reasons, in my opinion. First of all, as far as I know, there is no double decker with distributed traction unit capable of 320 km on the market today. And whether this is feasable while keeping the weight per axle below 17 tons remains to be proven...

    Does Croatia own its trains?

I'm just back from there, spent 3 weeks in June. I went there and back by train too. Railways in Croatia are falling appart. Slow speed, infrequent services... the bus bas taken over almost everywhere.

TGV duplex, would it fit through the channel tunnel?

A project existed for that, two duplex TGVs permanently coupled, with in the middle two power cars without driving cabin. Finally wasn't built.

TGV duplex, would it fit through the channel tunnel?

Yes, .Italo. And no, the recent french order is not for the AGV. AGV is single deck, SNCF wants double deckers. The train they have ordered does not exist yet. But it will certainly re-use lots of AGV components.

TGV duplex, would it fit through the channel tunnel?

Free market and competition require more than one competitor to work well. That's what the EU wants to endure. Same as anti trust laws in USA.

    London to Italy by train

Rome for a few hours only will be disappointing. Stay in Turin and Milan, it's largely worth a few days. Milan is full of nice things to see. Try the trams !

    Class 373 Eurostar withdrawals

A belgian magazine I subscribe to says that Thalys hired two ex-NOL sets. It did not specifý the numbers.

    Amsterdam Eurostar

Right for Belgium, 200 km/h running requires ETCS. In France, 200 km/h running existed way before cab signals, which are still not required today. They only add one aspect to the BAL signals, flashing green, which informs of a signal at danger two sections ahead, and imposes a speed drop to 160...

    Amsterdam Eurostar

There are a few 200 km/h lines in France (220 even for TGVs). Brussels North to Leuven is also 200 km/h and works are in progress to bring the line Brussels Midi to Brugge to 200 km/h too. Also lots of 200 km/h ABS lines in Germany. And at least one in Austria (Innsbruck to Wien?) where railjets...

    Amsterdam Eurostar

Liège to Aachen is through an area not very densely populated, opposite to Brussels Antwerp which is almost continuously built up. An High speed Line through this would bring unaffordable land acquisition Costs... and a defeat at the next elections.

Has the Man in Seat 61 had his day?

It's that same site that inspired me to ride trains from Belgium to Tehran, Marrakech, Beiging, Sicily, Athens, Tashkent, Zagreb,... And hopefully much more to come.

Things to see/do in south east France

Also very spectacular, the lines Nice-Breil-Coni-Limone and Breil-Vintimiglia. Complicated status - line operated by italian railways in french territory - and disputes between SNCF and FS make those lines endangered today. I managed, years ago, to do Nice-Limone-Vintimiglia-Nice in one day...

    Liverpool to Antibes

If possible, try to change trains in Lille Europe instead of Paris. Even if it means one more change further south, it's still preferable to the madness of the Paris stations and the always crowded RER.

    Right- versus left-hand running

It is certainly easier to change that on a network which is already almost entirely equipped for bi directional operation - which is reflected in the signalling of course but also in the track plans - than on a network where wrong main usage is still a rarity...

Turkey train derails en route to Istanbul, killing 10

Uzunkopru is the border station on the line to Greece and is, as far as I know, not served by passenger trains since the night train from Thessaloniki to Istanbul has been halted. There are pictures and vidéos in the turkish press showing a track, rails and concrete sleepers, hanging in the...

Hypothetical: Using ordinary trains when ICEs to/from Brussels are cancelled

Eurostar, Thalys, DB, and SNCB are all part of Railteam so they can't refuse you that service. But get your ticket endorsed by SNCB staff first just to be able to prove that you missed a connection.
