    Basel for a day visit

And also a small corner of the SBB station officially designated Bâle SNCF, I think.

    Old French coaching stock

Some ex RIO or RIB coaches, I think. Sold with locs of the same generation.

TRIVIA: Things you saw travelling on mainland European railways that you don't see today

The bimonthly train between Zahedan (Iran) and Quetta (Pakistan) should still be like that, if it still runs. I'm not aware of any other example.

A special train from Amsterdam to Berlin on September 17, 2018

Are you sure of that ? I was there last June on my way to Zagreb and had the impression that there were switchable tracks. But I may be wrong...

    Old French coaching stock

Most of it has been scrapped. I don't remember of any being sold abroad, excepted a few ex tee coaches sold to Cuba.

A special train from Amsterdam to Berlin on September 17, 2018

Same operating model in Dobova, the border station between Slovenia and Croatia.

A special train from Amsterdam to Berlin on September 17, 2018

Thank you again. I had the distinct memory of a border station with the overhead line split in the middle, 15kv on one side and 1.5kv on the other, locos entering the station pantos down and launched back to the right power by a shunter. Did such a thing exist in the past ? Btw, those track...

A special train from Amsterdam to Berlin on September 17, 2018

I stand corrected, thank you. I probably confused with another dutch border station. Venlo ?

A special train from Amsterdam to Berlin on September 17, 2018

Specially the switching needed to bring back the locomotives under the right power because the station, as far as I know, does not have tracks with switchable catenary.

Europe's most under-rated scenic rail routes

Semmering line in Austria. The 3 lines that converge to the small but wonderful station of Zidani Most in Slovenia. The lines Nice-Breil-Coni-Limone and Breil-Vintimiglia in France & Italy. Foix-Latour de Carol in France Charleroi-Couvin and Charleroi-Erquelinnes in Belgium The lines that...

Paris major engineering works 8/9/15/16 September

The route between Nord and Lyon closed during the 1980s, I don't remember when exactly.

Paris major engineering works 8/9/15/16 September

As far as I know, the transit of direct cars between gare du Nord and gare de Lyon took place on the Petite Ceinture, which is now out of action. This happened till 1980 or so. Using the grande ceinture would have been a very large détour.

    TGV Atlantique - 10 vs 8 cars

The TGV Atlantique line is essentially flat, does not have the 3,5% slopes of the Paris Lyon line when going through the Morvan hills. In addition, traction technology switched from serial motors to synchronous (think BB22500 to BB26000). So the traction capacity increased quite a lot, even with...

TRIVIA: Things you saw travelling on mainland European railways that you don't see today

They didn't. It was usual practice, decades ago, to allow rolling stock not compatible with the domestic safety system to enter the first station after the border. It is still working like that in a few places. SNCB rolling stock assigned to the Antwerp-Roosendaal all stops train service (AM 800...

TRIVIA: Things you saw travelling on mainland European railways that you don't see today

Something quite odd that's not likely to happen again is the mixed train plus plane service "the silver arrow" that linked Paris and London in pre-chunnel times. A DMU left Paris Nord fort the small airport of Le Touquet where passengers boarded a plane for the Channel crossing. The airport had...

TRIVIA: Things you saw travelling on mainland European railways that you don't see today

Trans-Europ-Express trains, with their specialized rolling stock, sometimes locomotives with dedicated livery, and specialized rakes like swiss Rae or german VTs. Night trains carrying cars. Passenger cars (sleepers, restaurants) owned and operated by CIWL. Pool-Europ freight cars. Long...

TGV duplex, would it fit through the channel tunnel?

No there is no double deck AGV... As you say, finding space for traction equipment in a car body with two levels would not be easy, as well as keeping up with the 17 tons axle load limit.

Here is a pictures of Zagreb station, found on the net, when it sas still under 3 kV =.

    Does Croatia own its trains?

Ah yes, Dobova... I spent some time looking how this station works... It is the place where 3 kV Slovenian locos get exchanged with 25 kV Croatian ones. It is recent, because before the split of Yugoslavia, the 3/25 junction was much more to the south. It was built on the cheap, with electrical...
