    UK face coverings discussion

Do not let anyone tell you the imposition of face masks led to a reduction in either the death rate or the infection rate :

Covid : Infection rates v death rates and a possible second wave

The infection rate is a hornets nest, it depends on how many tests are done. I despise Trump, but when he joked they should do less testing that is what he was getting at. The death rate is what counts, though even that is not as simple as it sounds, should someone included if they had Covid but...

Covid : Infection rates v death rates and a possible second wave

I've said all along there will be no "second wave" (as defined by as spike in the death rate more or less as high as the first) in any similar country to the UK with a death rate above (pref well above) 500 per million. Note I am not saying there will not be bumps and dips in the graph curves...

Which blog are you referring to ? Or do you mean death rate graphs which are not explained by what we're told by the government ? The same government which told us that "this virus was indiscriminate" ? TBH what surprises me is that anyone believes a word they say......

    UK face coverings discussion

Not at all, the situation with NZ and AUS is totally different from the UK's, they have a very low exposure to Covid, meaning : 1 - they have a chance to suppress it (though it will keep popping up now and again). 2 - they are very vulnerable to Covid. If it goes rampant over there like it has...

The world is indeed going absolutely bonkers.

    UK face coverings discussion

We shouldn't need to get to no deaths before ditching face mask compulsion. One of the many reasons I am very angry about this face covering edict* is when it was introduced Matt Hancock just said it'd be "for the foreseeable future", which is meaningless. There was no built in objective measure...

    UK face coverings discussion

TBH I'm of the view that most of what they're doing falls into this category, particularly as some people think they were late on the lockdown bandwagon. If the government were going to go down the lockdown route then it is beyond doubt they were late into it, though it must be emphasised I have...

    UK face coverings discussion

I would love that to be the case because I hate the things with a passion, I don't even like seeing other people in them much less having to wear one myself. In fact I was so angry that, after Labour came out in favour of them, for the period between Gove saying they wouldn't be made compulsory...

    COVID 19 Good News Stories

I have been saying this for months. All the death rate graphs (like on here) indicate this, even within the same country : New York has had a very high exposure to Covid (it must be approaching herd immunity) and so its death rate now is low. But Florida hasn't yet had a death rate anywhere near...

    UK face coverings discussion

I read this post and it thoroughly depressed me, even though it's just a post on a forum ! I thought this was supposed to be good news...... What worries me is that probably a majority of people in this country have a very poor grasp of risk probability, and when you link that in with the fact...

When did the fly ash trains to Fletton cease ?

Does anyone know when the fly ash trains to Fletton ceased ? A previous thread on here many years ago revealed that the pointwork was removed in 2009, but when did the trains actually stop running ?

So, Sweden may well have been right.....

Was Sweden right after all ? Sweden last quarter "growth" : minus 8.6% (no lockdown) UK last quarter "growth" : minus 20.4% (lockdown)

So, Sweden may well have been right.....

It amounts to the same thing. I have never used the word immune to Covid, because I don't think people are, I prefer "not susceptible".

So, Sweden may well have been right.....

Now this is VERY interesting..... The theory that I have had for a couple of months now is that up to 75% of the population are not susceptible to Covid, it's the only thing I can think of which explains all the death rate graph curves previously mentioned...

Has the COVID Crisis changed our attitude to risk?

As far as I understand it GPS controlled speed limiter can be over ridden but a warning sounds and it is recorded on the car's black box when it happens. It was that aspect that apparently the government listened to from all the motoring lobby (read Petrolheads), plus the made a big point about...

can public transport ever recover from COVID-19

Public transport will not recover to previous levels whilst ever passengers are required to wear face coverings, that's for certain.

Has the COVID Crisis changed our attitude to risk?

Why has the world over reacted to Covid (shutting down half the world's economy for a virus which kills at most 1 in 200 people and we know even who is most at risk), and is it consistent ? It is consistent : How many of us have seen pictures of rail tours from the 50s, 60s or even 70s with...

    UK face coverings discussion

I absolutely agree with all of this, except it will kill a lot of people, in this country, as in a lot more people in this country. There will be no second spike any where near as high as the first, if there is any increase it will be short lived and relatively minor. I also wonder what...
