    New Ticket Design Launched

New layout tickets from Scheidt & Bachmann machines (the type used at Hereford, among other places) are very poorly laid out indeed. There are a lot of problems with double-printing, cut-off data and overlapping. The one I've illustrated here (issued at Kensington Olympia, machine 2272) even...

I haven't seen any more since the last one I posted (Liverpool Lime Street). No sightings yet on Southern, in particular.

    New Ticket Design Launched

Attached here is a scan I have been sent of a Scheidt & Bachmann Ticket XPress ticket in the new layout. It was issued at Liverpool Lime Street (Low Level), machine 2229, on 28th Feb. Four main points of note: For this "Any Permitted" journey, the ticket shows wording to this effect rather...

    New Ticket Design Launched

Ah - that makes sense. I imagine we might also see that in respect of the various undefined discount percentages which would currently be rendered on tickets as DISC.

    New Ticket Design Launched

My money's on the latter  Apart from the small number of Parkeon ToD machines on the East Midlands Trains network, I haven't seen any TVM tickets that have been "done"; I also remember reading about the "TVMs first" statement (probably on this thread), so I was very surprised to see the...

    New Ticket Design Launched

I've seen no publicity anywhere, and I've been looking quite carefully. Admittedly most of my travels are in the London and Southeast area, where not much has changed so far. Still the only examples I've seen are from one of the Willesden Junction Cubic FasTIS machines, as I illustrated a...

    New Ticket Design Launched

Scan of Cubic FasTIS example as promised. I think this looks a lot better and more readable than the Northern Parkeon examples. The font and layout are more suitable. (Agree with the point above about kerning.)

    New Ticket Design Launched

Well, I wasn't expecting to see this so soon ... I've seen a "new layout" ticket from a Cubic FasTIS machine. Issued on 18th February 2015 from machine 0371 at Willesden Junction. Layout broadly the same as on the Northern Parkeon trial. Will do a scan later.

    How many tickets?

It was reported recently in (I think) Railway Magazine that two people who travelled from Annan to Camborne on a combination of Advance tickets (to take advantage of fare-splitting) were issued with a total of 30 coupons! A typical point-to-point Advance ticket including one change of train...

    Collecting tickets

I've collected modern British railway tickets for more than 25 years, and started at only a slightly older age. I know many other collectors, and everybody seems to have a different method of cataloguing their collections! Broadly speaking, mine is like this: Point-to-point travel tickets...

    New Ticket Design Launched

Normally you shouldn't, as far as I'm aware. But I've recently had sight of two tickets issued at one of the newish Parkeon TVMs at Haymarket* on 9/12/2014, again for a FAM and a CHFAM, on which the serial numbers were the same. Perhaps we are seeing a move from serial numbers towards...

    New Ticket Design Launched

Those fares look suspect...! I hope they are not meant to be one Adult FAM ticket and one Child FAM ticket, but I have a horrible feeling that they should be... In which case, that is a serious programming error.

    Best value multi-day rover

Yet another vote for the Freedom of Severn and Solent! In 2006 I combined this with a trip to the West Midlands: Monday travelling from Sussex to Long Buckby, Tuesday in the WM with a combination of tickets, then in Great Malvern overnight; Wednesday, Great Malvern to Chippenham via lots of...

The tightest connection you have ever made at a train station

Background for this one: for a couple of years there was a dedicated non-stop shuttle bus (route T123) between Feltham station and Heathrow Central Bus Station for which you could get a through rail ticket from any NR station printed to the destination HEATHROW/FLTMBUS. (Now, TfL route 285...

    Public places with playable pianos

Brighton station has had one for about 6-9 months. There was a bit of a problem a while ago when somebody nicked the stool (!), but generally it has proved a big success. It's on the concourse next to the coffee kiosk.

    New Ticket Design Launched

I've recently had sight of an interesting folder of documents called "Ticket design", issued by the Chief Passenger Marketing Manager of BR in 1977. It goes into great detail about the importance of standardisation in ticket formats and fonts, even to the degree of specifying sizes for...

Here's a link to one of my pics of Tinsley Green Junction - standing on the Radford Road overbridge isn't the best idea, as there's only a pavement on one side, but it's not a very busy road... https://www.flickr.com/photos/pics-by-mpd/3645113336 ...although it will get busier when...

Buses that run along an A or B road with the same number present or past

The Metrobus route 273 service (Brighton-Crawley) runs along the A273 between the A23junction at Pyecombe and Stonepound Crossroads in my old home village of Hassocks. Oddly enough, the 271 service, recently(ish) extended to Brighton, runs along the whole length of the A273, from Pyecombe to...

    RailUK Forums Ticket Gallery Project

I'll have a look next time I go to my parents' house - unfortunately my "Errors and Misprints" box is still there  All being well, I'll be able to post a list of all examples I have seen together with dates.

This machine was an Avantix B8070 self-service machine - an upgraded version of an Ascom Autelca B8050 (the "Quickfare" machines of Network SouthEast fame). Certain Quickfare machines were upgraded from late 1998 onwards to offer a wider range of destinations (about 200) and to accept credit...
