    Airport "public transport" tax

Dublin is like that. Jump on the regular Dublin Bus service and it'll set you back a couple of Euros. They accept Leap cards and are included in the daily cap. Catch the dedicated aircoach and it's about €10, I think. Admittedly the aircoach will be faster, and it's a coach rather than a bus...

More high quality Merseyrail ticketing staff!

I was once told at Liverpool Central that my Saveaway was only valid in Sheffield! It was issued on bog roll by a TPE conductor who must have been based as Sheffield as it said "Issued at Sheffield" on it. If they can't even know their own tickets, you've got no chance...

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

Oh yes. I was on the first one, left about 8 late. Failed at Fazakerley and had to do a full reset, which took quite some time. Then terminated at Sandhills, to find out the other 777/1 had also failed at Headbolt Lane and hadn't left yet. That left about 25 late and also terminated Sandhills.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

Thanks very much, I'll hopefully have finished breakfast by then and should get it at Waterloo

    Least popular Sleeper destinations

Normally a few people waiting for the Sleeper. Not loads, normally around 10 or so whenever I've boarded I'd say.

    Motorway services discussion

Surely the vast majority of people use service areas for a quick pee stop and maybe a takeaway coffee or a bottle of coke. I rarely do long distance drives, but that's by far the main use I've had for MSA's. I stopped for a McDonald's breakfast in Keele around 5 years ago admittedly and when I...

    Chiltern MK3 replacement fleet possibilities?

How history would be repeating itself! We've been here before with 170/3s and TPE gaining 156s leased from Northern.

GWR Revenue Protection Letter for Rail Card

Slightly off topic, but is that the same for the Trainline app? I've recently purchased a three year one from them and it's highly likely I'll get a new phone in that time.

    Least popular Sleeper destinations

I boarded once and was told by the TM it was rare to pick passengers up there. I'd have thought most Falkirk passengers would use the Lowlander. Particularly given you can't alight the Highlander heading North.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

I boarded an Avanti service the other day which had arrived late and been swapped in fairness. When the platform was displayed, the new screens said "Platform closes in 2:52". Who's idea it was to display that, it's about the worst thing they could have done! Admittedly I was pleasantly...

LNER were seriously proposing airline style check-in for rail travel?!

I mean, they could... But it would serve of no use whatsoever to LNER passengers would it :D

    Best boat journey?

I love a good ferry trip. Want to do more of the West Scotland routes, did the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay a bit ago and being out on deck with a cold beer (which remained that way, it wasn't a warm day!) Enjoying the scenery was just perfect. Did the NorthLink routes back in September...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Travelled from Edinburgh to London last night. The seated coach was fully reserved. The TM was sensible and displayed on the screens that the coach was fully reserved, and that three (specified) seats were reserved from Carlisle. If they can fill the seats on a Tuesday in December they must be...

'Bumping' - is it becoming a serious problem?

I tapped in at East Croydon a while ago, just after a group of youths had forced their way through the barriers. One of the barrier staff remarked, with the youths possibly still in earshot, that "at least some people know how it works". They must be in a very difficult position. I absolutely...

ORR calls for more competition in station catering

Absolutely. I have been known on multiple occasions to bail out of trains back from Scotland for pints in the station pub at Lancaster:D They do a rail staff discount too which is always appreciated.

ORR calls for more competition in station catering

It is very good, I'll give you that. But the Sheffield Tap is much better in my opinion. Intrigued and looking forward to the curry house though!

ECML South disruption - OLE down 09/12

Why shouldn't they? Not everyone is travelling to London, Grantham is a destination in it's own right, and also an Interchange for Skegness, Boston and Nottingham amongst other places.

ECML South disruption - OLE down 09/12

Allegedly Avanti revoked ticket acceptance after a TM was assaulted this morning, according to the guard of the TPE train I'm currently on, which is carrying displaced passengers.

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

I counted at least six 175/1s dumped at Holyhead as I boarded a ferry this morning. So, assuming they're not there due to faults/fire damage ect, that's six units which are currently on the network.
