    Caledonian Sleeper

I was looking for seats ideally. For them all to be booked on all four portions was what made me suspect something was amiss. Ah well.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I was looking at booking Northbound this Sunday night. All portions in all accommodation shown as fully booked. Are there issues with the website, as that does seem a tad unlikely?

Fined by Merseyrail as I had “come too far” without a ticket. Should I fight it?

Admittedly I've never been to Sandhills on a match day and have no desire whatsoever to change that fact. Given the more unusual location of the ticket office (in particular) depending on where the revenue inspections were taking place, it wouldn't seem unreasonable in my opinion for someone to...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I was on from Fort William one night and the bog was locked out. The TM explained this and told me where the next one was, and made it very clear I was more than welcome to pass through the club car to use it. As I attempted to do so, the staff in there who were evidently unaware of the...

    LNER app (and its notifications)

I was greatful for the alerts a couple of years ago when I was travelling on a later train, through no fault of my own, and was given an apology for the delay. Disregarded the first one as we were flying along at 125. Then checked the maps and saw a 91 had failed in Welwyn Tunnel and...

    Urgent TOPS Requests

Wondering which 196s are out on the Brum-Worcester/Herefords this afternoon please?

Glasgow - Edinburgh via Falkirk - Do not travel message 29/01/24-01/02/24

In fairness when that was done it was only the Falkirk line closed. Plus XC ran more services than they do now too. All that's running now is Shotts line and the occasional Carstairs services. Could they be running more? Probably. But it's not a fair like for like comparison.

    Greggs in Manchester Victoria.

You could have told me! :D

    Caledonian Sleeper

When I went to Fort William in September, we got terminated at Edinburgh 5 and a half hours late. There were about 30 of us off the Fort William portion. They put us all in taxis, but generously. My taxi was a regular Hackney carriage which had 7 if not 8 seats, but they only put 4 of us in...

'Bumping' - is it becoming a serious problem?

I was at Norwood Junction on Monday afternoon and in the space of about 2 minutes, 2 out of the 6 people that came through the barriers had paid. Makes you feel like a mug for paying really when in the rare occasion they do get caught, unless there's Police involvement they'll likely just get...

Storm Isha may affect your journey in parts of England, Scotland and Wales on Sunday 21 and Monday 22 January

Landed at Manchester an hour ago, from Heathrow. The flight was smooth for the whole way until we began our descent. Got quite bumpy and the captain initiated a go around at 275ft after a couple of sudden gusts. I did have visions of ringing work from Cologne or somewhere after some of...

Storm Isha may affect your journey in parts of England, Scotland and Wales on Sunday 21 and Monday 22 January

Particularly as it's Northern*, it would surely be good PR to send you out a free return ticket in response to your taking their advice not to travel? *Not meant as an insult, merely they're the only TOC I know of that do issue complimentary tickets on a "go anywhere" basis routinely.

    Class 710 LO

I've not really been following the 710 thread, so apologies if anything's been covered already. How many units are yet to enter service? And what do the 710/3s do? I need 710268/269/270 for haulage; I've gathered 270 won't happen just yet but what about the other two?

4 day closure of ECML south of Peterborough

Even with a reduced LNER service? Or even Lumo style, run as far south as they can and bus to KGX seeing as it'd only be a handful of trains?

Storm Isha may affect your journey in parts of England, Scotland and Wales on Sunday 21 and Monday 22 January

Beyond "tickets may be used until X", you won't get replacements. You can either take advantage of ticket acceptance or get a refund. I know that's not the answer you'd have wanted of course!

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

I was starting to warm to the single leg pricing, or at least, see some of the benefits of it. That said, I do think the Super off peak" should have been renamed "off peak" and kept at the same price. For someone making a walk up single journey from Aberdeen to Penzance holding a railcard, the...

Lumo plans to carry additional 275,000 passengers between London and Newcastle

At a guess, to avoid an extra lodging turn as the crews are all Newcastle based?

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

Fair enough. That's something for me to keep an eye on then as it always has been when I've looked.
