    Back in the day...

Great thread, which I've just caught up with. Your 1985 FOS was a couple of weeks after I did one. Was 37175 still spouting outrageous gouts of flame when you were there? Uni/Poly interviews rang a bell, too. I did an overnight move down to Plymouth in Feb 1984. Electric Manchester to...

Ideas Wanted- Northern Day Ranger Ticket

I don't think you can do it clockwise, but Widdershins, and with the aid of a bus, you can do Skipton-Leeds-Harrogate-York (bus) Whitby-Hexham-Carlisle-Barrow-Carnforth-Skipton if you get up at sparrowfart.

    Rambling Roebuck... (Trip Reports)

The quizzing, both Friday in Headington and Saturday in Bletchingdon went well. Good fun and great company. Anyway, back to the trains... 28/4/19 - A Leisurely Trundle Norrard. First move of the day was a kind lift to Banbury. Then 168327 and 168321 appeared, the former dud from its time as...

    Rambling Roebuck... (Trip Reports)

...and like Northern Rail, they are late! 26/4/19 - Reading to Oxford, the tortuous way (aka trains and boats and flying machines) A good night's sleep at Reading Travelodge, then a walk back through the town centre to pick up nice winner 166204 on the local to Basingstoke. This was...

    Rambling Roebuck... (Trip Reports)

Like glaciation, my trip reports eventually return... 25/4/19 - Oxford Quiz Trip Day 1 The best laid plans do not account for oversleeping. Therefore a late start saw me tramping it to Victoria on 3076, with 3076 following up to deposit me at Piccadilly. Tickets bought, Pendo 124 was dull and...

It's no longer called Ceefax, though! With having Monday and today off (from haring round on trains rather than work), there's no point in a Heart of England Rover. Therefore the revised plan is tram to Manchester, single to Stoke, WMDR (cover the Cat diagrams, then head down Worcestershire...

22/04/19 - Week off day 1 Totally knackered after two long days at work. Duvet day, with Bristol Rovers v Rochdale watched on teletext rather than live. 23/4/19 - Week off Day 2 - Wayfaring Got up late and much refreshed - decided on a gentle day locally. Wayfarer bought, then spent 30 minutes...

    Juliano's World Frenzy/Tech's Trip Reports

Nice couple of days there - and you've reminded me I've yet to sample a 379. Already got plans for two new (to me) classes in the next week, might tack on a third next Sunday to pick one up Are Hereford to Paddington trains 800s these days?

Which is your favourite train journey in the UK?

Keeping an eye on this one myself. 37421 is still required... :) Now there are non-stop services, Todmorden to Rochdale would be reasonable.

    Spoorslag '70's semi-random Trips

Not read your reports before, and they are very good. I like the random variety of your trips - buses, trams, ice cream and Arsenal* mugs sound the sort of random interjections into a day out that make it all the better. And I agree linguistically - Aachen rather than Aix-La-Chapelle! (*A...

Connecting walks between unusual station pairs

Did Pitlochry to Blair Atholl many years ago. Nice scenic forested walk along the Tummel, with sunshine dappling the woodland floor. Then it started raining, heavily... :( On a more mundane note, Featherstone to Streethouse (or vice versa) will be done this summer.

Phil's Trip Reports (and learning the different class of trains along the way!)

I was on the scene at the time, but still didn’t get one on a service train. Did randomly get 58037, though... :) Anyway, back to Phil's thread - sounds like you enjoyed yourself, which is the whole purpose of leisure time. I hope the Settle and Carlisle, or wherever you choose to go next, is...

    Rambling Roebuck... (Trip Reports)

Thanks for the feedback. Got next week off (Monday to Sunday). Will involve a 3 in 7 Heart of England Rover, the odd Day Ranger, at least two quizzes, maybe a football match (with a new ground scored), various random new shacks, more mopping up of new track and (hopefully) lashings of red ink.

    Rambling Roebuck... (Trip Reports)

5/4/19. A Southland Raid, Day 2 The clocks had chimed midnight at the Park of Finsbury. Next up was a gratuitous attempt to be lucky with my last 11 GNR 313s, with a quick leap to Drayton Park and back. First up was double disappointing duddery, with 027 leading 051. However the return was...
