Northumberland Line: trip planning & reports

Great to hear. There'll still be a novelty factor in those loadings but a full car park at Delaval tallies with what I saw a fortnight or so ago. How many of those would park at Newsham or Northumberland Park when open remains to be seen. I detected a feel good factor around the new service...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

We shall see. I'll repeat what I've said previously. I can't see continuous electrification into Sheffield before 2035. I hope I'm proved wrong. If I am I hope opportunities to improve capacity in the Sheffield area are fully taken.

Is the extension to the Borders Railway back on track?

A quick look at OS maps showing contours, roads and what's left of the old track bed plus density of urban development says this is a non-starter. No need to spend millions to prove that. Use the money to make real improvements to still active lines that will benefit more users more quickly...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

The public will have to put up with a lot of disruptions to get Sheffield, the Sheaf Valley and Dronfield wired - let alone through Leicester, Derby, Chesterfield and to Nottingham. The mile of wires in open country aren't a problem, it's the bridges, platforms and tunnels that cause the delays...

New Go-op train service between Swindon, Taunton and Weston-super-Mare approved by ORR - Access Rights now lapsed

£86,665 from 110 investors towards a target of £2.6 million with an extended 86 days to go. If I were involved with this I'd be extremely hacked off with those responsible for the financial planning of the operation. On what assurances did they prepare their plans? Well meaning enthusiasts...

    MML Electrification: progress updates

Excellent pictures illustrating the space available for electrified 4 tracking with possible/probable bridge reconstruction. Further south towards Bradway 4 tracking couldn't be fully achieved without major demolition, particularly the section just to the north of the southern Archer Road...

    Hulley's of Baslow (Defunct)

We've heard the bus hit the bridge and the bridge was undamaged. Are there any pictures of the bus? The assumption seems to be that it is now topless. Is the vehicle economically repairable with or without a top?

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Houses built in middle class suburbs pre WW1 might have provision for a day servant with bell system into back kitchen from lounge, dining room and main bedrooms. There would be an outside toilet for said day servant - in our house it had been converted into a coke cellar.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

Sheffield FC was founded in 1857, the world's first football team. They intend to move to former Sheffield Transport's large ground at Meadowhead, back in Sheffield, as soon as planning issues and finance can be resolved. Selling their current ground for housing is part of that. In any event the...

Isn't there something in the agreements to operate the 272 that it must be a double decker - and now compliant with Sheffield's CAZ regulations?

Two additional tracks to be built into Leeds station from the West?

Extension to a platform at Leeds Train Station to enable a greater capacity for passengers. I may have missed it in this thread but I've previously posted a link to West Yorkshire Combined Authority's approval on 20th August 2024 for the scheme to proceed through decision point 3 (outline...

    Russia invades Ukraine

The Art of the Deal. In this case Putin has Ukraine over a military barrel so Trump can come to the rescue - with a financial barrel of his own. Zelensky is in a vicious vice without any resolute and united strong independent European alternative in sight. All too predictable once Biden's...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

This has been raised before. Short hop passengers through the central core heavily outnumbered longer distance users in the consultation, especially from Sunderland and going all the way to the coast or airport. Getting a seat through the core at busy times is a luxury so lack of space to get...
