What will be in the NR/DfT document about decarbonization

I was inspired by this. A conference and a recommendation of NR means it needs to be in speculative ideas but might it actually happen at long last? Mods - I really thought it deserved its own thread and I could not see elsewhere. https://twitter.com/NoelDolphin/status/1263471620854775812...

Thousands volunteer for Coronavirus vaccination trials

A few thousand are volunteering to be exposed according to this article. http://www.msn.com/en-us/health/health-news/vaccine-research-thousands-of-people-want-to-be-exposed-to-covid-19-for-science/ar-BB141q6G?li=BBnbfcL&OCID=AVRES000

Transpennine Upgrade - what should happen East of Leeds

Discussion moved from: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/transpennine-route-upgrade-and-electrification-cp6.88054/page-92#post-4565988 It was suggested that rather than clogging up the main thread on Transpennine Upgrade and electrification CP6 we should have a speculative ideas thread on...

    Coronavirus and electrification

I know this might sound crazy and I know I keep beating the drum about electrification, but we have seen pollution go down during the lockdown etc. Covid 19 is a Respiratory disease. Electrification as well as being low carbon is also low in NOx and particulates which make respiratory diseases...

Grant Shapps letter etc to Select Committee published

I see the response to select committee questions has been published. https://www.parliament.uk/documents/commons-committees/transport/lilian-greenwood-mp-to-grant-shapps-mp-oral-evidence-session-on-dft-priorities-23102019.docx.pdf A brief extract of what I liked:

OK - will Transport feature in the Quuens Speech?

Queens speech is Monday Oct 14th I read on parliament website. How likely is it that Transport- Rail will feature? Surely there must be more than Brexit

Party Conferences(silly season) promises so far on transport issues

This thread is really to summarize ideally just in note format, what everyone has said so far on Transport. Liberal Democrat - I am unsure Labour - 1) nationalize in a compressed time frame 2) Definitely electrify the MML Conservative (a few days off yet) Scottish Nationalist? Green Cancel HS2

    Scotland CP6

I was watching Grayling before the Transport Select Committee today and was a a little underwhelmed to say the least. No real commitment to anything. However Scotland transport is devolved. I am reposting this from a while ago Electrification threads and resources index Absolutely nothing...

Now that a Climate Emergency Declared how do you think it will affect railway policy?

    Infill electrification - definition

I sent a tweet or rather replied to a tweet from Roger Ford asking what did he think the definition of infill was as "infill electrification" is allegedly back on the agenda I am genuinely curious. I always assumed it was when both ends were already electrified and you filled in the middle. But...

Portillo calls Grayling most incompetent of all time

Sorry if there is already a thread on this but did you see this? https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-politics-47254136/ex-transport-minister-michael-portillo-on-chris-grayling Very troubling when Transport is near and dear to many of our hearts

Idea: Could HSTs be converted to hotel-sleepers for electrification teams?

I was lying awake and thought that a big inefficiency in electrification work is mobilizing people to site. I was thinking that for say Transpennine (if-when it gets the go ahead) is so remote in places it would be very efficient if a HST was converted to have showers and beds and restaurant...

    The Plant Invader

My records are in the UK. Was anyone on this board on that tour. I remember it as a great day out run by Dale Ficks and Neil Webster iirc RESL. I can’t remember the sequence but there was a 56, a 58 and a pair of 20s. Great day out especially as it took us right into the Doncaster Plant on an...

    Lostock- Wigan electrification

As this is a separate electrification scheme - although part of the whole Northwest Programme, it really should have its own thread. See here for initial comment which seems to be confirmed gen from a good source. Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

Speculation hindsight - electrification of the Northwest

OK we know things have not gone/going to plan on Euxton Jct to Manchester electrification. I did not want to clog up that thread by going off topic and speculating what should have been done with hindsight (hence this new thread) - but here is the order I would have done things to allow for...

With Theresa under threat - may mean failing Grayling goes?

With Theresa under threat - it really does seem she can not really hold on to power, do you think that means a new Transport Secretary and - failing Grayling goes? So no more Grayling Gaps in electrification. I hope Grayling goes. My 2 cents

    Enhancements Delivery June 2017 Update

OK - Mordac has posted this to the electrification sticky but of course contains much more than electrification and I thought it worthy of its own thread. To me - On Man Vic - Stalybridge electrification it actually uses the phrase "Manchester Victoria to the Miles Platting area". I though this...
