    First Group: General Discussion

Looks like First Manchester at Oldham (but not the Bolton outstation for V1 & V2) are on strike today and Thursday. Not seen anything about this elsewhere. No buses out on bustimes and First GM's website confirms it - appears to be about pay.

    Staffordshire Bus News

From 24 January the D & G 108 is being extended on Saturdays from Leek to Buxton. This replaces the 16 which has been withdrawn over this section on Saturdays (still runs M-F).

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Fabulous - and I thought I was the only one! I agree and I remember thinking much the same as I left the bus at the terminus. I might have some pictures but not to hand at the moment, will try and dig out.

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Wonderful recollection of 1985 and some great pictures, including an excellent array of REs! I particularly love the ERL on the X1. Just a few times in the late 70s I took some of these on the overnight coach between Liverpool (or, one time, Wrexham) and Oxford, they were marvellous beasts.

I agree with many of the comments on Kent here. Tenterden and surroundings are good, the 297 is excellent (especially on the decker - not done that), also if you can fit in the 123 between Biddenden and Ashford this is good. The 2/A and 12 in this area are also good while the 11s (especially...

New interoperability Ticketing agreement for Cornwall

Surfacing from some over indulgence I don’t see how this is anything other than a Good Thing. It will encourage tourists onto the buses and prevent the negatives when they find their ticket isn’t valid on all the buses. It is an attractive price and will no doubt be publicised appropriately at...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Good to see your list of trips and overall thoughts for the year @TGW. Your 16 trips beats my 15 as listed in post 35. I have thought about my overall favourites too and set out some of the best sections of route in post 40. My favourite overall trip was the first North East one including the...

New interoperability Ticketing agreement for Cornwall

Excellent, well done to all the parties. It will make bus travel in the county much more accessible to visitors. Looking forward to seeing what 2022 brings.

    Go North East

The Interdeck coaches must be high mileage and have obviously been quite troublesome. It might have been better for the X84 and X85 if these two services and the 685 didn’t all leave Hexham within 6 minutes of each other every hour. Having said that I took an early evening X84 into Newcastle...

    Arriva Buses (including Greenline)

3907 and 3909 at least have been in service from High Wycombe today, renumbered as 3021 and 3023. 3021 is tracking as 3700 which has presumably got the chop, 3023 didn’t appear to be tracking at all. Presumably more to come.

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Really interesting report, thank you. Always good to hear about different places. I've been to Rome and even on a bus to visit the Vatican with the family some years ago but not encountered the scenery like this. Another time. Sorry TGW, it does beat Guildford bus station! A happy Christmas to...

    Hulley's of Baslow (Defunct)

Just had a look on Derbyshire website. It confirms the X57 withdrawal, but the 257 is being enhanced to run hourly for most of the day Monday to Saturday! Hulleys are taking on the 55 between Chesterfield and Alfreton from Stagecoach. It will run hourly and link with the X70 at Chesterfield...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Thanks for your interesting report. Credit to Arriva for running their services through to the end, it would have been easy for them to fall apart. Some good places but not very good bus territory, probably survives in part on school and college runs. Guildford itself is reasonably pleasant but...

    Stagecoach Takeover Discussion

It would appear that the disposal of Megabus, Scottish Citylink and the Falcon is anticipating the attitude of the Competition on Markets Authority who would be likely to investigate the merger. Eminently understandable as the combination of Stagecoach's long-distance interests with National...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

I would second all of this. Devizes is an architectural gem, well worth an hour exploring. The 49 across the downs and passing Avebury is really gorgeous. One option here is to connect at Avebury onto the 42 to Marlborough or Calne. As well as the routes TGW mentions there are also the 76, 77...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

So with the D1 withdrawal and the D1X being replaced by an extension of the 3... The 3 seems to be double deckers so I assume the 3 extension to Trowbridge will run via the D1X route. I don't really see how it can serve possibly serve Winsley so it will just be a fast (ish) service to Bradford...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

And the D1 on from Trowbridge to Westbury, Warminster and Salisbury loses everything? Passing the begging bowl to Wiltshire council I suppose.

I know that this is very self-indulgent - please forgive me - but, following on from post 35 above, I have put together a short list of ten of the most scenic sections of route I travelled on during the year. All photos taken by me from a bus during 2021. Maybe this will give someone the impetus...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

Excellent and interesting report. Not too long at all! I am glad you have seen the delights of Coggeshall, I started a trip about 4 years ago as I had seen how attractive it was. Also West Mersea, although when I went I dropped back a trip to take time to visit the beach. And Maldon is an...

Trips by Bus and Coach: Your reports

I haven't ruled out another trip this year but it seems unlikely unless we have a couple of sunny days and Omicron doesn't bite too hard, December is now upon us so it is time to review the year 2021. I have managed 15 trips, given that it was impossible until mid-April this isn't a bad result...
