    Townsend Thoresen Info

Try the national library newspaper collection at Colindale. The reports into the disaster should be in national archives at Kew. Maybe P&O have archives you could reference.

This is what gets the current rail system a bad name

They should not have to find out. All the information they need to manage the train should be delivered to them electronically. To a tablet or to their ticket machine. And control should have seen the train from Brid was a bit late and authorised him, again electronically, to wait up to 4 mins.

Were brake vans ever used in passenger trains?

There would need to be a guard at the back if there were any unfitted wagons in the consist. The brake van would be needed if a coupling broke and the tail started running away in the wrong direction.

How many cars are typically powered in a multiple unit?

The kit in the drivers cab is called the 'master controller'. When a driver changes the position of the controller, it sends messages down train wires to the traction equipment on the train. They then all act in the same way to make the train go. You have chosen an old example for an EMU. With...

When can we expect all London termini to be diesel-free?

Isn't one of the points of bimodes that you can drop the pan and put the diesel on if there is an issue with the overhead? So if the overhead goes down at KX, then the bimodes will al go into diesel mode, won't they?

This is what gets the current rail system a bad name

And so we have people avoiding using trains unless there is a through service. To me the point of a railway is its a web of interconnecting services. If its going to be a lottery as to whether you make connections then thats a massive disincentive to train travel. Poor connection policy is also...

Putting new bodies on mk1 underframes

Post in Leyland National facebook group about a prototype coach where they put a national bus body on a mk1 underframe. It was loco hauled stock, not a pacer. Wasnt developed further because of adverse press reaction and the need for loco hauled stock was going with sprinterisation. There was...

Weirdest things you have seen on a bus route

I am sure there are examples of buses going through a garage in service. The one I remember is Grassington where many went through the garage. Also between Skipton and Grassington, the road used to go through the middle of Swinden quarry. The bus went under the conveyors going to the crushers...
