    Darlington station expansion

Electrification safety clearance, isn’t it? First discussed here after being seen in a big way at the Reading rebuild?

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

You might find the intended staging in this thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/etcs-rollout-on-transpennine-route-upgrade.299035/#post-7690023 I haven‘t read all the linked info from FOIs etc, but it does seem clear the fast lines between Dewsbury and Huddersfield will be opened...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I doubt they’ll go beyond Colne Bridge Road bridge in the near future because there’s a principal supply point building to remove. Although perhaps they could just leave a gap in the nearest track?

Balise based ASDO - feasible to make this the standard?

Isn’t there still a ‘stop short’ issue with the Desiro version of ASDO used by SWT/SWR, because only the leading vehicle reads the balise? The ’gold standard’ presumably requires every individual carriage to make its own checks, AIUI this was the case with the 458‘s setup?

Sadiq Khan says future of Heathrow Express should be ‘reconsidered’ due to Elizabeth line success

No, it is not actually simple. There are issues with relief (slow) line capacity, and there are also issues with crossing to the main (fast) lines. It’s a subject that’s been covered in this and every previous thread about Hex and Crossrail options for change.

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

There have been track plans seen in videos linked earlier in the thread, but they don’t show three main line tracks going through this specific area. I think the three track section is effectively a freight loop that starts further west. I’ll try and find a link. Here you are, the post includes...

@Kevin51 just replied to a post I wrote in May 2022, post #8 on page 1, so he may be reading other info that is overtaken by later events...

Lineside Fire Causes Chaos at Waterloo 23/09/26

To me, (and I wouldn’t claim to be an expert), lineside implies alongside the line but not necessarily on the track. Lineside is also used when it’s a fire on third party land with smoke billowing over the railway. I think they could be more accurate. Was the Paignton station incident, a...

Where in London would gain from a mile long tunnel with stations at both ends?

I don't know why people keep proposing extending the Waterloo and City at the Bank end. It’s been pointed out numerous times in previous speculative threads, eg by @Bald Rick, that: ”It’s simply not possible without closing other lines and demolishing some very expensive buildings to clear...

    Havant Area Signalling (26-30 October)

They’ve still got a major ROC to fill of course, I wonder how that affects their decision making process…

Italians working on British Rail in the 1950s?

You can learn some remarkable facts in these forums, amazing that this is still running after almost 80 years. Here’s a link to an MOD summary about “Ilford Park Polish Home”: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ilford-park-polish-home

    December 2026 Timetable Change

Are these the trains that GW objected to, resulting in the thread here: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/gwr-accused-of-disrupting-wales-england-train-links-by-welsh-government.302957/page-11 So does the appearance on RTT mean they’re definitely happening, or is it still to be approved?

    HS2 Progress near Kenilworth

I think the A45 bridge over HS2 is in the centre of the very last shot in the video, at 8m 49s.

HS2 and the APT: The Scottish case for tilt!

Lineside Fire Causes Chaos at Waterloo 23/09/26

The online sectional appendix (public version updated March 2024) reads that 444s can use 20-24 with a normal ‘Y’, but there is a disconnected (so probably out of date?) ‘R1‘ note in the right hand column suggesting at least one type of rolling stock was not cleared into P21 and P23 at some time.

Lineside Fire Causes Chaos at Waterloo 23/09/26

Happens a lot. Makes me wonder if they’re intentionally trying to downplay the problem, or they just don’t know the true nature of the problem when they raise the incident…

An infrastructure fault? I think ’lineside fires‘ are usually nearby, but not necessarily in a point motor or its wiring…

    Network Rail Advert Location

The 2009 and 2010 Streetview suggest not to me, I reckon the far rail is in its correct position with respect to the inspection chamber on the right, by the fencing?
