    December 2026 Timetable Change

Hasn’t the Bentham line seen an improvement in the last few years?

    Rail usage

I did wonder that too. Possibly engineering works in this period which had effect. GC seems to have seen decline.

    Rail usage

Will be many reasons such as ongoing engineering works. No doubt will be a shining light in the next quarter.

If Grand Central's new Brighton service is approved Cambridge becomes the only station with 6m+ passengers per year without a service to "The North"

Cambridge has always had a direct service to Norwich. It was just very infrequent (just one or two trains daily) between the early 1990s and 2002 when the SRA funded the Anglia Railways bid for a regular link using four newly purchased 2-car 170s.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Nothing much on X from disgruntled passengers so I suppose most went earlier or just accepted it is what it is.

West Midlands Trains "Destination Manchester" - will it happen?

And to think Operation Princess was to bring a far more frequent direct service than the two trains each way daily. In the end nothing at all.

Sadiq Khan says future of Heathrow Express should be ‘reconsidered’ due to Elizabeth line success

Thanks that would make sense. I mistakenly typed BE when I meant ex-BR.

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

I suppose though it won’t be such a rush to get them in traffic with Scotrail and they are expected to have a proper refurb first. At least they now know what to expect.

    Overnight railtours

I think it looked good and you just imagine getting wasted during the tour but come 2-3am and the night style shift tediousness of it all it was always going to end up being grim at the end.

    Overnight railtours

The Overnight Bag was a good one in the late 1990s running ragged around the Southern Region.

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

So good to hear of the improving situation on the Midland Main Line.

Sadiq Khan says future of Heathrow Express should be ‘reconsidered’ due to Elizabeth line success

You’d think all staff working for Heathrow Airport Holdings would get free travel all the time anyway just like us ex-BR employees do.

    December 2026 Timetable Change

Not hugely from what I recall. Remember the Queen Street route offered trains every 15 or 30 minutes which was far better than the Central offering to Edinburgh. Reliability could also be an issue coming in from Kings Cross.

    Sizewell c construction traffic

To be fair the Felixstowe route has had millions spent on it and the last upgrade answered most of the problems with additional and extended loops along with improved signalling. Nothing was ever going to be done about Spring Road Viaduct. Trains do clear the single line sections rapidly.

    December 2026 Timetable Change

Yes the much improved VWC Pendolino service to Euston was an hour faster than any ECML offering to London even if it wasn’t quite hourly initially. Peterborough & Doncaster and their connections however lost out on regular direct Glasgow services.

    Class 120 DMUs

Also popping up in Lowestoft & Yarmouth on Summer Saturdays.

Ways for passengers to stop trains in emergency

If I noticed them then a very small maybe but it’s not something that is really noticeable at speed and for a train driver to do at any time especially unless it was from somebody railway related.

Sadiq Khan says future of Heathrow Express should be ‘reconsidered’ due to Elizabeth line success

Seems very odd and un-railway. As a general rule it’s completely impartial when it comes to the range of tickets and operators across the network. We get paid regardless.

Sadiq Khan says future of Heathrow Express should be ‘reconsidered’ due to Elizabeth line success

All rail staff I know annd have worked with throughout privatisation (annd BR before) are completely impartial on such things. There is no loyalty to your own employer you just advise the passenger on what best suits them.
