It’s normally policy to clear them for all possible routes. We even tested 745s here in East Anglia on the Southend Victoria branch although there is next to no chance of using them on it.
When ever I have seen any of this at Norwich station it’s always been right across the front car park near the traffic junction. They are allowed nowhere near the station premises.
Yes there are. You’ll find most trains are running late into Ely and Peterborough on this route and have been for many weeks now. It does however seem to be improving slightly.
Oh definitely yeah. You could see the kink up ahead at 100mph and it was reported many times but RT/NR dismissed it so it just carried on until they strengthened the embankment years later. At least you knew where you were at night or during fog/falling snow.
There was an amazing ‘kick’ from the track just south of Diss/Palgrave where the new overhead structures were installed for many years. Was worst as the leading bogie of the DVT passed over.
There will be some transfer and no doubt the buses/taxis have taken a hit at Cambridge station. To a lesser extent there was a smaller abstraction when Cambridge North opened but this was then annoyingly distorted by the pandemic.
The Ingatestone & Shenfield area was always my favourite when driving class 90s. The ride could be absolutely atrocious.
Catering members have been complaining recently about the issues along the GEML.
Greater Anglia are saying that the station has seen a whopping 400,000 passengers in its first 100 days. That is one successful new station and exactly what anyone in the know was expecting, and some.
How coincidental is that? My flight was just late enough for me to miss the 14:46 GA so this was the best option to connect into the 17:32 at Norwich for Brundall Gardens. In the end the earlier operational incident caused the EMR connection at Ely to miss it anyway
Loadings seem very healthy from what I witness most of the time. Boarding the 15:25 ex-Stansted-Birmingham at the airport last Tuesday there was already a large crowd waiting for door release on platform 2 at 15:10. On departure it was very busy, then full from Cambridge South, standing in the...
It did yes. Regional Railways introduced regular services in 1991 as part of the 1988 initiated Express network but due to poor loadings these ended up being withdrawn a few timetables later. From what I recall it was Central Trains that resurrected the link once again on a roughly hourly basis.
That it was. Only 5 built I think. Was just the driver, a member of ICOBS catering and a revenue guy when my mate and I filmed up front a few weeks in. Oh, shouldn’t forget the half a dozen punters too but I may have exaggerated on the number of those.
Yes, this was a folly when planned/constructed but I suppose nobody could’ve predicted how busy Stansted Airport would become. I recall passing a big sign close to the railway proclaming ‘WHITE ELEPHANT’ in those early days which was matched by the exceptionally poor loadings on those 322s.
Same applied with GA when the Metro services where handed over to TfL several years ago. It was all however expected and planned for in the franchise agreement.
