    Transpennine Express Industrial Action

You'll find at least one operator where this is the letter, not just the "spirit". My guess as to what's happening here is that someone at @800002's employer has fundamentally misread the RDG documents and briefed something at variance to them.

I'd say given some TOCs are of the view that it fundamentally is the policy then you're probably wrong in that. As above the guidance I've seen makes it explicit that any cancellation after the time of booking qualifies, regardless of if it's one day or three months after booking.

    Rail usage

That's not the case. Your opinion may well be that predict and provide is a good way to run a train service and it's an honourable one. But it's not the only option. I believe that London Trains is permitted to disagree with you if they wish? In any case it maps poorly to what we actually do...

    Rail usage

To be fair my reading of @London Trains post was exactly this, that this is the wrong way around. High-quality, high-performing services inevitably work the other way around. Of course we don't have those things really so we simply make do. It's the British way.

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

I also didn't believe that the ticket sale would be refused if the validation were unsuccessful. At least not for quite some time from now. Of course, having paid full price the OP is at least in a strong position.

SWR cracking down on Vauxhall - Waterloo doughnuts/short fares - Also GTR

Is that safe? Personally I'd be more comfortable joining the train with nothing than with a ticket for a railcard reference number that I'd just invented. Usually such systems won't accept 0000000, so you'd have to actually invent one. Of course we don't know if the number shows through on the...

    Transpennine Express Industrial Action

I suppose I ought not to be especially surprised that a poorly-drafted and badly-communicated policy change has resulted in sharply opposing interpretations, which could end up with disagreements between staff and customers, potentially over some quite large sums of money. This is, after all...

Caledonian Sleeper Highlander – can I get off at Edinburgh?

If I tried to work (my non-safety critical role, such as this one) after a couple of broken hours of sleep in a seat on a train, my boss would think I had gone utterly do-lally and send me home. Then they'd ask me not to consider anything involving coming to work in future on next to no sleep!

Rather Geographically Inaccurate GWR Route Map

The tube map displays all TfL-sponsored services, and some others. It's certainly not a complete document by any means, but it's rather more complete than this one is. The only reason I can think for wanting this information to be easily displayed in this format is, for example, if you need to...

TfW Delay Repay + 1st class refund. Who is wrong?

Superficially I'd be rather tempted to agree. I'd not make a claim like this as I don't think that's a good use of my time. However, there are important parallels. Firstly when TfW have been going around accusing customers of committing offences or breaches of contract with their tickets and...

    Transpennine Express Industrial Action

It's essentially an impossibility for a member of on train staff to know the difference between an STP cancellation and a P-coded cancellation though. So in practice it would be impossible to enforce any such criteria. Sometimes P-coded trains won't be removed from the screen either. So again...

TPE bodycams flashing red - meaning

Police officers need access to their bodycam footage in certain situations in order to accurately file investigations. Obviously they would seek to be taking the correct notes at the time, as that's exactly what they relied on prior to the use of bodycams, and the contents of their notepad can...

The guidance I've seen states the opposite to this.

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

It's a shame because you wouldn't want a single location café to lose out on the business really. But also there's only one way to defend the principle against this kind of sharp practice, and that's to abandon your items if you decline the fee. Not allowing the fee to be refused is really bad.

    Sunderland 700/701 TUPE dispute

I would say they decided to involve themselves to a degree by cancelling the contract unilaterally, rather than negotiating a termination... Indeed. They could get this right, or they could avoid unilaterally pulling the plug mid-contract. But as it stands they've decided not to bother with...

Declining quality of free samples at major stations e.g. Leeds

Presumably the margin on some of this branded cat food makes it worthwhile eh! The stall I saw wasn't giving away a sample size either, it was a whole 2kg bag of cat biscuits or something.

    Greenford and Bromley North branches

Not really. Tupe is not generally effective at making out the transfers in cases where there isn't an agreement between the two employers. In this case, it's unlikely that there would be a relevant undertaking at all as it's such a small part of the job role. When whole depots were transferred...

It is. That's the normal way franchise boundaries were remapped.

They wouldn't. They'd be different jobs with different rates of pay, different terms and different hours, in a different location. Existing GWR staff would stay where they are and lose the route. Existing LO staff would also stay where they are and gain a new route.

    Greenford and Bromley North branches

They wouldn't be relevant if GWR gave the work up and some other company took it on from fresh.
