Whittlesey - collision between freight train and tractor. (19/08/21)

The signage isn’t great. I imagine some people reading this will just read the “1, 2, 3” points, and not the text above it (even though it’s on a red background). I am not making excuses for them. Just suggesting what might happen. As a result the risk is increased unnecessarily.

E-Tickets v Print at Home Tickets?

That barcode was too small to contain the required data. It needs to be a type 6 barcode, which is too big to fit on a CCST ticket.

E-Tickets v Print at Home Tickets?

Basically: it’s completely proprietary. And that means expensive to produce, maintain and integrate. Embracing more open standards is the way to go. 1629567475 We don't need anything involving integration with TVMs. They are expensive enough as it is. 1629567518 Basically it's eTickets for...

E-Tickets v Print at Home Tickets?

Different versions of each standard, I think you mean? Normally 12 months is allowed to upgrade to the latest standard. The customers you refer to be would be the TOCs and RDG, which change the standards. It seems reasonable that, if they ask suppliers to make changes, they should pay for...

E-Tickets v Print at Home Tickets?

I’m working on it! 1629540515 No, the problem is not software suppliers. It is those that create and manage standards - RDG and the TOCs.

    Northern Duo tickets

Ah. Of course. Very little similarity between the two!

What will happen to already issued Northern Complementary Tickets under GBR?

I expect that they will have to be used by a certain date. For example, when northern branding ends (assuming it does). I don’t think you can expect them to last forever in the current circumstances and I would plan to use them before 2023 if I were you.

Leeds to Manchester - why don’t TPE try to compete with Northern advance fares?

They're all effectively run by the DfT now anyway. Has no-one noticed? They are not "businesses" in any normal sense of the word.

    The evolution of Cross Country

From 1984 (or 85?) this was the 08.00 Newcastle - Poole / 10.40 Poole Newcastle. I think it ran at 09.40 from Poole in the first year, and perhaps also on summer Saturdays at first. On summer Saturdays it was also extended to / from Weymouth, and ran via Doncaster rather than Leeds, at least in...

E-Tickets v Print at Home Tickets?

It’s another standard. The rail industry is great at creating new standards - after all, it gives people something to do - but terrible at getting rid of old ones. See ‘self print’, which I’ve been trying to kill of for 5+ years. Or m-tickets (similar). Etc.

No advance 1st fares on WCML this summer?

Well, I can see (for example) a £96.40 1st Class Advance fare to Runcorn (from Euston) on the 11.07 on 8th September. There's a £102.60 fare on the 08.07 and 09.07 on the same day. I haven't looked at coming back, and it's not especially cheap, but they are there.

will east coast trains participate in regular rail ticketing?

Yes, although there’s a pile more. Not just that one.

will east coast trains participate in regular rail ticketing?

We do. They have created the ticket types and they are able to be retailed anywhere.

Ticket Help - To/ From Lytham

There is no such thing as an off peak train or specific time, despite what is commonly thought. When Off-peak starts, and whether any restrictions apply in the evenings, depends on the journey being made, and the ticket held. It is often determined by the arrival time in a major conurbation...

Woking to London Euston - ticket to London Terminals valid despite saying not valid?

The ticket is not valid on the Underground. You need a ticket from Woking to London Zone 1, which will enable you to make a journey on the Underground, from Vauxhall, or Waterloo (or Victoria), to Euston. [edit]: sorry, I see there are some other aspects to your question which I have not addressed.
