Facing Point Locks - interlocking & its potrayal in games

There were cases where the same FPL lever locked one set of points when normal, and a different set of points when reverse. As say up direction signals would need the FPL lever normal, and down direction signals would need the FPL lever reverse, this saved having to provide locking directly...

    How Viable are Preserved Railways?

It is not necessary to make trains reservation only to ensure that anybody who has paid for a seat actually gets a seat. It is really very simple, you only sell as many tickets as there are seats on the train. To keep on selling tickets long after all the seats have been filled is in my...

Delay repay involves multiple operators keep rejecting

Can you point at where I said any such thing? It was you who said it was being done to increase my take. That is more of less exactly what I said. A break of journey involves spending time on something other than completing the journey. But what does and does not count as a "substantial...

Automated Delay Claim raised for wrong train

Ah, you may be right, as I was abroad at the time I received their email. It does seem poor practice however if the train times shown on their delay website depend on the time zone that your computer thinks it is in!

    Maltese cross

I suspect that previous drivers might not have looked very closely at the ticket, and just assumed you had a day travelcard. I have had these printed on standard ticket cardstock.

    Splitting the Northern line

I agree that the current setup can be confusing. You turn up at somewhere like Euston and get directions to something called the Bank branch and Charing Cross Branch, neither of these branch names appear on the tube map. "What's this Bank branch?" Only by a detailed study of the map to find...

    Timetable Change/Delay Repay?

What was the reason they gave for declining the delay repay? And have you considered appealing? It is quite common for claims to be automatically declined, but accepted on appeal. If a train is cancelled, and you have to catch a later train, then you are entitled to claim for the resulting...

Delay repay involves multiple operators keep rejecting

How is it fraudulent if the information submitted on the claims is accurate? You don't specify on the claim forms that you broke journey. And who are you to determine if the OP did or did not break their journey? As far as I am concerned, any activity that isn't directly relevant to the...

    How Viable are Preserved Railways?

This is one of the things that has put me off travelling on the NYMR, as I have seen too many reviews complaining about people having to stand, people who have prebooked not getting a seat or even not getting on the train because they have filled the train up with people who book on the day. If...

Am I correct in remembering that you are not allowed to bring in loose sheets of paper? I seem to recall that I turned up with a biro and some loose paper, which were rejected. I had to buy one of their notebooks and pencils. 1758012385 Agreed to both the cafes and walking. The walking route...

Automated Delay Claim raised for wrong train

I recently travelled from Machynlleth to Birmingham with an advance ticket bought from TfW for the 1206 train, which I travelled on. I had a card ticket, so it was not scanned. We arrived into Birmingham late. The following day I received an email from TfW saying they believed that my journey...

Delay repay involves multiple operators keep rejecting

Absolutely. The question is, which interpretation of what actually happened should a claimant use? The OP made a through journey from Taunton to Norwich. However, it might equally be true that the OP made a journey from Taunton to Paddington, and a journey from Liverpool Street to Norwich. I...

Budapest transport ideas and any recommendations near Bucharesti Nord?

Many museums and attractions may be closed on Monday, as seems to be quite common on the Continent.

Should London and other UK cities adopt a numbering system for Underground, metro, light rail and suburban rail lines?

There are an increasing number of visitors from asian countries that don't use the Roman alphabet. Not to mention all those who have difficulty pronouncing the line names, or describing the various hues of blue and green used in a foreign language. Or those who are colour blind. I agree that...

Budapest transport ideas and any recommendations near Bucharesti Nord?

I would thoroughly endorse a visit to the Children's Railway. Check for when they are running one of their historic trains, or other special events day. A trip up and down the cog wheel railway is also recommended. As is a trip on the regular trams to the other end of the Children's Railway...

Should London and other UK cities adopt a numbering system for Underground, metro, light rail and suburban rail lines?

Personally I prefer the idea of lettering, as then you could just use the first letter of the current line name, B for Bakerloo, D for District and so on. I think the only conflict would be between the Central and Circle? For which I would use O for the Circle.

Visiting the National Archive at Kew

As per previous poster, if the drawings you are wanting are pre-1970 (not sure of the exact date), then they are highly unlikely to be metric A0- sized, but may be old imperial sized drawings. For very early drawings, they may even predate the imperial drawing sizes - they just made the drawing...

Delay repay involves multiple operators keep rejecting

    A) it wouldn't be fraudulent as you don't specify that you have made a break of journey in the claim. B) How do you know he didn't break journey? Particularly bearing in mind that exactly what constitutes a break of journey doesn't seem to be particularly well defined.

Wars, killing, politics disasters, etc., etc., does constant harping about these make them worse?

Agreed about the range of sources. The echo chamber of social media is a real menace. If you pick one news item from the media company's suggestions, it will then feed "similar" news items at you relentlessly. The answer is not to click on news items that social media suggest, and it will...

Delay repay involves multiple operators keep rejecting

In retrospect in such cases, provided that the OP had a ticket that permitted break of journey, he would probably have been better off applying for delay repay based on just one leg of his journey.
